forthe lasr week or so ive been hetting elecric shocks of alot of things i touch, for the last two days ive had over 20 perday!
what on earth is going on?
Anybody experinced this?
- By shannon [gb] Date 21.03.07 18:01 UTC
yeah...I got a static shock from both my dogs today!
- By Dogz Date 21.03.07 18:02 UTC
Yeah I get them alot too, in fact today I was taking a patient into a lift in a wheelchair, as I pressed the button to open the door I got a really loud crack and had to reassure patient it was just me!  I believe it is static electricity that builds in you and just needs to find a route out.....

yes ive been getting tons off the dogs!

Why do you think theres a sudden build up?
- By ali-t [gb] Date 21.03.07 18:08 UTC
I had that problem a few months ago and someone on here said it might be to do with the shoes i was wearing and sure enough I had a new pair of slippers and it only happened when I wore them.
- By michelled [gb] Date 21.03.07 18:10 UTC

Funny that you should say that.  I haven't had any for years but every time I touch my car door for the past couple of days ....................

I've been trying to think if I've changed my fabric conditioner etc and I haven't. :(
- By michelled [gb] Date 21.03.07 18:14 UTC
perhaps the world is ending!!!!
- By Soli Date 21.03.07 18:13 UTC
I don't know why, but if you have a spray bottle with diluted fabric consitioner in it (1 : 30) and spray it around your home (carpets, upholstery, etc) it stops static shocks.  My husband suffers from it all the time and since we were told about this we started doing it, it really works!  He sprays the soles of his shoes too which stops him making the dogs jump every time he pets them.

Even if it doesn't work he'll be soft to cuddle! :D
- By munrogirl76 Date 21.03.07 19:01 UTC
Not had any recently. Maybe it's the weather?  When it's building up to thunder there tends to be more of that sort of thing about I think (not seen the weather forecast tho so don't know).
- By rachelsetters Date 21.03.07 19:07 UTC
Me too - got one from my daughter this morning and my car too!  Not sure what is happening - but there's alot of electricity about!

I am prone to this but not experienced any for ages and ages - must be the weather?
- By LJS Date 21.03.07 19:08 UTC
That is spooky as over the last couple of weeks I have been getting loads of shocks as well :confused:

I haven't changed anything either

Perhaps it is change in atmospheric pressure or somthing like that

Someone once told me if you run a hairdryer(the body of it not the air :) ) that is switched on over yourself it will discharge any static. Don't know if its true though :D
- By sam Date 21.03.07 20:00 UTC
op, are the shocks only from things in your own house? if so there may be some sort of electrical fault that neds looking at:eek: on a personnal note, i cannot touch most metal things without geting a shock...cars, railings etc.
- By michelled [gb] Date 22.03.07 07:08 UTC
both ,home & work & car
- By ice_queen Date 21.03.07 19:58 UTC
Must be something about.  All the staff working tonight got shocks off the trolly's, different ones, not always the same one.

ARGHHHHHHHHH the world is coming to an end (michelled said so!)

ARGHHHHHHHHH the world is coming to an end
Fear not 'chicken-Licken' ;) :D (or was it Henny-Penny???)

I find that when I get 'staticy' I rub my hair & hands with one of those 'Bounce' Tumble drier sheets.... works a treat :D no more 'Einstein Hair' :D

Did anyone else notice how extra static it was at Crufts this year? I was with the afghans and we had dreadful frizz :)
- By Lissie-Lou [gb] Date 21.03.07 21:22 UTC
Weird - I got one from the kitten, or the kitten got one from me, the other night.  I touched her nose and it crackled!  I got the filthiest look! :-D

I keep getting them, and my hair is really static all the time, I think it might be to do with the central heating.
- By Dill [gb] Date 22.03.07 00:26 UTC
Oh dear, I've been getting shocks too :(   I'd better stay out of our local Tesco, last time I suffered from static I sounded like someone with really bad tourettes   every time  touched the trolley!!  OH and child thought it very entertaining :( :(

I find it's worse when we get really cold dry/dry weather and the humidity's low, my hands are really dry too.  I usually 'earth' myself by touching a tap or running my hands under running water, this helps a bit.  I'm going to try the fabric softener, can't hurt (not as much as static shocks ;) )

OMG OMG!!!!!!! DONT PANIC:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
- By michelled [gb] Date 22.03.07 07:10 UTC
im glad it is not just me:eek:

Can it be good for you to have that much electricity in you all the time??????
- By louisechris1 [gb] Date 22.03.07 08:32 UTC
I used to get this all the time but it seems to have quietened down lately, thank goodness!

I used to dread touching anything as sparks would sometimes literally fly!  When handing over money for breakfasts when i used to work in an office the young lad used to make me put the money on the desk as he was fed up of getting shocks off me :D  He couldn't believe how strong the shocks were, visable to the eye and accompanied by a loud crackle every time.  I looked the problem up on the internet and it is surprisingly common and seems to be perfectly harmless, so no need to panic!!!!!!!!

Oh, I couldn't believe how much it used to hurt too - I'm glad it seems to have stopped, or am I tempting fate by saying that............................
- By ice_queen Date 22.03.07 15:44 UTC

>so no need to panic!!!!!!!!

Does this mean the world is no-longer coming to an end???

Thank goodness for that! :D :D :D :P
- By MariaC [gb] Date 22.03.07 15:52 UTC
I get this from my car but no other car
- By Dill [gb] Date 22.03.07 22:32 UTC
I don't know why it happens but I've always put it down to my electric personality :D :D :D
- By ceejay Date 25.03.07 18:37 UTC
M&S is the worst place for me - food counters that is.  My son says I should stay out of the place because I spend too much on food!  ( He doesn't live at home now but still is happy to raid the cupboards)
- By g-raff [gb] Date 26.03.07 12:13 UTC
