Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / frozen bones

I had 2 huge marrowbones from the butcher a few weeks ago and froze one of them. Just remembered about it and have taken it out to defrost for the dog to munch.
Is it ok to give her previously frozen bones?
Do I have to wait until it is thoroughly defrosted before she has it?
I won't give it to her until i get some advice! Thanks

I sometimes freeze the bones - I tend to let them defrost completely, but I'm not sure if that is necessary!

I always freeze all my bones and give it either defrosted if I am ahead of the game (which very rarely happens  :D :D  ) or give it to them straight from the freezer :)

I should imagine frozen bones are very good for teething puppies :)

Has anyone else fed frozen tripe??

Last summer, I was taking it out of the freexer to defrost, putting it in the utility room sink, with door open  (to get rid of the smell) and on several occasions, packets were stolen by delinquint dogs - with no ill effects.   Thought that during the summer it might be quite cooling for them - any reasons why it shouldn't be fed in this way??

margot,
I have fed free flow frozen tripe still frozen, as I couldn't tolerate the smell of it defrosted lol. My boy looked wonderful on it and never had any problems. Haven't had the courage to try the bitch on it yet as I'm not sure I can go back to the smell again

Am I right in thinking that ALL beef should be iether frozen or cooked before eating by dogs as there is a possibility of a parasite (Sorry can't remember what it is) that can do harm , but it is killed by freezing or cooking? I freeze all my dog meat and then thaw before eating but yes my girls often have frozen bones in the summer and they have sufferd no ill effects...yet.

I freeze marrowbones as well before serving them to my dogs, I have heard that freezing the bones or meat before giving raw to the dogs kills off any germs etc.
I have not ever served frozen meat though, I do tend to defrost it first!  Might have to try it though as tripe dan:half:stink!

OK - well, when summer does eventually arrive, and we have hot weather, they can have frozen tripe lollies :D

I think that all of them have, on one occasion or another, succeeded in stealing a still frozen bag of tripe and wolfed it down before anyone has spotted that they've had it .........with no ill effects, so this year, once it turns warm, I shall deliberately let them have it.   I must admit, I always worry about defrosting it because of flies, etc!

We normally feed tripe frozen (all year round) and in the summer, carcasses etc are given frozen. Mine have never had a problem with it :)

Where do you guys get your raw bones from. Berriewoods only do a raw ham bone and I wasn't sure about giving this to the dogs? I do go to the butchers for beef knuckle bones etc, but I'm lazy and love home delivery. I'm in Bromley, Kent.
