i have 6 week old pup and fining something that he will eat has been a nightmare tried allsorts (raw, tinned. dried, soaked ,rice pud, porridge, etc, ) now found he will scoff up all this asda,d hero which says E.G. liver/duck pate do i need to give him something else as well He will eat a few dried royal canin mini junior He,s not a big lover of any milks either any suggestions please

I bet he didn't get to 6 weeks old by being so fussy. :) What did the breeder recommend? When I collected my pup she came with a diet sheet that told me what she'd been reared on, how often I should feed he, the times I should feed her, how to reduce the feeds at certain ages etc.
Puppies won't starve themselves so I would find out what the breeder fed him knowing that he must have eaten that and then stick to it at regular intervals. At 7 weeks old I was feeding mine 4 times a day

Cheryls, our pup was eating very well at the breeders. SHe gave us a puppy pack including the food the pup had been reared on, we had also orderd 15kg of it to last her while she settled in untill we would change her onto the food we feed our others but after a day she refused point blank to eat it. She ended up on tesco meal, milk and chicken wings as t was all she would eat. Also gave her calcium tablets to help her :)
However OP, have you tried high meat content dry foods or cereal based ones. What about raw meat? Maybe consider the BARF diet? Also dry putting food in the microwave for afew seconds to bring out the oils making it more smelly and more tempting?
Just keep trying her on foods untill you find one she likes :)
Good luck!

>but after a day she refused point blank to eat it.
little monkey :D
With OP's pup being only 6 weeks old I would have thought the initial fussing over food might have been down to the change of environment more than an overnight decision not to eat the food she'd been used to. Chopping and changing about at this age just teaches the pup that they can have a change in menu whenever they please. Just my opinion though.:)
i bred this myself trouble being just one pup we fostered 5 others who went back at 4 weeks when they were with us no probs she will have raw mince and raw tripe but a bit picky and as i said doesnt want to know anything milky but she seems to love this hero pate just don,t know if there,s enough vit etc in it thing is he,s no-one to compete with and i,ve no-one to compare to

Obviously my reply doesn't apply then. Im sure someone will be along soon to answer your query. :)

Have you tried Naturediet Puppy or Natures Menu Puppy? Both very smelly/tasty

(not that I go around trying the food) and they are both complete and very nutritious. Not sure about the Hero pate - perhaps you could post the ingredients/nutritional analysis and somebody will be able to help you? Fussy puppies are a nightmare! Such a worry!

Is Mum still feeding her? If so she may not need much other food yet and I wouldn't worry about the vitamins.

not much help to you but my dog loves the asda wet food too. She isn't keen on many of the wet foods but I use asda hero pate's to add to her burns food for a bit of variation. My dog looks great on it and it isn't her sole food but a little bit seems to be doing no harm.
i,m sure she ,ll aquire a taste for a more substantial food at some time but when,s there,s just one i,m apt to over worry he does snatch the occational drink off mum but i,m trying to get him off altogether So thamks for all suggestions
Hiya, if you fed all of the pups together, then they will have eaten fast and furious to make sure the got their share. I feed altogether but keep an eye out to be sure they all get suffcient. When on their own they realise that they have no competion so quite iften dont eat all of their meal at once, so lift up what has been left, and dont be tempted to feed again until the next scheduled feed. If the ASDA food is specially formulated for pups then it should be ok.If puppy is gaining weight then he is getting enough.Regards to all M.C.B

My pups had purina puppy mixed with ero tinned adn slowly weaned them off the tin and they are now on complete dry it has taen 10 weeks in total.
Linda

This asda hero sounds like a miracle food :-D I've got a 7 month old bitch who hardly eats and I've tried all sorts. Will be taking a trip to asda's at the weekend ;-)

Im thinking about that too

Welshie can you post the ingredients and GA to this pate?? Is it a human pate or a dog food?
well i bought pkt of 6x150g this is what it says on box average moisture 82% protein10% oils&fats5% ash2% vit A vitD3 vit E prob not the best diet and i,m not clued up on all these things All i know is that it started his appetite going and he loves it now i,m mixing in tripe and as i said royal canine mini bites (junior) i know it,s probably not ideal and maybe it,s just coincidence but he,s eating and when you have a 6/7 week old that won,t look at food and just wants mum BLIMY do you worry i,m sure he wont be on it for long it just seems to have kick started him off and i was willing to try anything

Im sure it wont do any harm in the short term, but if you are feeding the royal canin too then you have no worries - good luck, I know how tough it is with an older dog who wont eat, must be awful with a pup that young

Ok :) i can see you dont want to post the ingredients, but can you tell me is it a pet food or human pate food?
I was wondering if it was human or animal........mind you, i thought the doggy pudding in the other thread sounded lovely...odd to give a dog though...till I realised it was dog food dohhhhhhhh ;) Well, mine will open pudding type trifles, yoghurts etc given half a chance when my backs just about turned.....:P
oh sorry only just back on cp it,s most definitely DOG food just says pate on the tin Have given ingredients that i can see unless you mean like
chicken/ham pate ..meat and animal derivatives (min 4% chicken ham), minerals.various sugars.
same for chicken/turkey and duck/liver.
hope that helps
Thanks Welshie.......can't be any help to your query, was just being nosy as to if it was for dogs, coz never heard of a pate made for them :) Good old Asda, good store shame its so far away from me :)
