My daughter has just rung me to say her car has been broken into :( She stayed the night at a friend's house leaving her car parked in the road outside, got up this morning to go to uni only to discover her car had been broken into.

They have taken her CDs, her coat, the de-icer:eek: and a bag of rubbish that was under her front seat, attempted to take the CD player but failed to get it out of the dash so have left it damaged and dangling on it's wires. Bizzarely they have also taken the parcel shelf  but the biggest nuisance of all is they have taken both rear light clusters leaving her unable to drive it at all. Not only have they taken the lights but have cut the power cable to them - although they have pull apart plugs on them so could have easily have been removed without the need to cut the wires.

It is her first car, not worth much in monetary terms but is her transport for getting to and from uni and her part time job which she needs to help support her through uni

I am getting so fed up with people who think they can just help themselves to other people's property and have no respect or empathy for the rest of society. She paid out £600 for fully comprehensive insurance but the cost of the damage and repairs would write her car off anyway and she would lose her no-claims bonus so is in a lose - lose situation.

Police have been very helpful and are sending someone out to finger print the car - which was right underneath a CCTV camera that was out of order

Not a good start to the week :(

Bad news however most probably cheap to fix.

Lights and parcel shelf from breakers yard - or dependent on car you can buy after market ones.

CD player real shame can pick up v cheap ones now.

And not to rub salt into the wound but she should never leave anything on sight as these people will nick anything

Would be cheap to fix if they hadn't cut the wires - looking for a breaker who has part of wiring loom needed to install new lights as old wiring has been cut so far back there is no spare left to reach new light cluster. Once we have located one OH should be able to install it after having bought yet another Haynes manual which also went.

The items taken from inside were in the boot and  not in sight until they climbed inside the boot after having dismantled and stolen the rear parcel shelf.

Car is now back at our house awaiting parts for repair and rescheduling of this weeks commitments in order to get her back on the road again.

Just really annoyed that so many problems have been caused by someone else's lack of respect and morals :(

I've been through this too many times myself - I'm really sorry for your daughter Harley. There's no punishment for theft so why not? The guy who broke into my house soon after I moved here, around 1999,  got a £50 fine; he was in possesion of my stuff (US stereo equipment and I had the serial numbers) and it was his 14th conviction. Fifty stinking quid - I had to pay about 250 excess. :-(

I hope it doesn't cost too much to fix.

It is just so annoying - I will have to change my work hours for the next week in order to be able to take her to and from uni - bus not an option where we live - and cancel this weekend's plans in order to go to the breakers yard to try and get replacement parts for her car.

They even took the filthy dirty dog blanket that was in the car - covered in mud from a trip to the woods  It's a real shame she didn't have a full  poop bag in the car as I would have loved for them to have taken it thinking it was some goody or other :D

Sorry that you have been on the receiving end as well :(

:mad:They probably took the blanket to carry the rest of her stuff in :mad:

My car was broken into many years ago, stolen from a park and ride.
They did a burglary in it (found some other stuff in it when I got it back - student nurses home
I found out later )
and my car was dumped in Blackbird Leys.
The Police took the HT leads off to stop it being stolen again.:rolleyes:

All my radio casettes got nicked well bar two and one of them was Kim Wilde:rolleyes::eek:
Obviously not to their taste!!
Had paint spilled in the boot of the car and the rear carpet which sits in the estate was stolen too..
This was a 1.3L Astra estate in metallic bronze...hardly the sporty desirable car:rolleyes:

I was so upset. The park and ride had CCTV but the camera's weren't working  typical.
Makes you mad why the lazy sh**** can't get off their arses and do a decent days work and earn
money to pay for what they desire instead of nicking it from a hard working person that isn't well oft.

I know that it's not really a funny subject, but many years ago, a old guy that I worked with had a really old, tatty car. He used to park it in a side road, but one day it was stolen and used in a bank raid :eek::eek: When he got it back it had a full tank of petrol in it and he was SO pleased :D :D :D

Daisy that is great :)

When she phoned the police to report the damage to her car she was really impressed with their response. The police officer she spoke to was very worried for her initially and he said  her name on the computer was  "flagged" as she has recently had a problem with a stalker who now has a restraining order on him and is  not allowed anywhere near her. They came out to check she was ok and he was not in the area. We, and the police, are almost 100% certain, for various reasons, that the damage and theft with the car are not related to the court injunction at all and was the work of someone totally unrelated. More a case of wrong place wrong time.

I have to say that the response from the police was spot on and they deserve  credit for their concern and follow up.

Hopefully she will be back on the road again soon. :)

aww sorry to hear this Harley :( I'd be absolutely gutted if my car was broken into and/or wrecked.
Hopefully she will get it sorted and soon be back on the road again.

Lazy, idle, little toe rags! As someone said, the punishment for theft is the conviction, and no matter how many of those they get, they still receive paltry little fines. No real deterant. It matters not if the items stolen/damaged cost a fortune or can be cheaply replaced from a brokers yard, the sticky fingered little gits who did this had no right to in the first place  They have absolutly no respect at all for someone elses property. I hope things get sorted, and very sorry to hear it had happened. Why oh why are the CCTV cameras often so useless?
