Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / First season after a litter
- By LindaMorgan [gb] Date 15.03.07 08:29 UTC
My bitch had her first litter in October (it was also my first) and I was wondering how may her seasons be after, The reason I ask is my male will not leave her back end alone at the moment but I am wiping her everyday and there is no swelling but could this be a sign that she is due?  Any help really appreciated.

you count her next season from the start of her last season as you would normally so she is about due if her seasons run every 6m (my bitches are 7m and 8m seasons)

My bitches have always had their next season after litters exactly when I'd have expected it if they hadn't had a litter. It's 7 months or so since the start of her last season so she could be due any time, depending on her individual cycle.

However there's also the possibility that she has an infection because males find the smell of infection very similar to oestrus and get very excited. It'd be worth having the vet check her out and possibly give a course of antibiotics.
