Have mated bitch 25 days ago watching her all the time for signs as of yet none can anyone tell me if she was pregnant should nipples be pink by now have mated before but never managed to get her pregnant this time used a draminski got one good mating tie 15 mins but tried again 2 days later dog not interested at all as you can see i'm inpatient

Your vet might be good at palpation (some are, some aren't) at detecting pregnancy; you could have her scanned, or just wait and see!

Hi Carole
I have learnt since my time on this forum, and from the very kind help and advice that the members will provide that all dogs are different. Some will show signs of pregnancy and go on to have no pups, others will show very little or no signs and go on to have a happy and healthy litter. Your vet is the best place to go for clarification at this stage, however they are not always right either!
It would be so simple if there was a clear blue test for dogs!

3 things you can do patpaltion, blood test, scan the bitch to fid out if she in whelp or just let morther nature take it course. which i do if the bitch is healthy and well. if there a sign of discharge or a smell.then i would do the test
All bitches are different, I have one that produces big litters (8 -10) and you would not know outwardly by her size that she was pregnant. I always have mine scanned to confirm pregnancy from 28 days, however I always tell the scanner that I just want confirmation that she is pregnant and not to try to give me numbers (dodgy ground).

Briedog. How can a blood test confirm pregnancy?

Relaxine (sp) present in blood test. Only there if a bitch is in whelp, not if she's experiencing a phantom.

i am having the same trouble at the moment, mated my girl 41 days ago, but i cannot tell if she is pregnant. Her nipples look larger than normal but no change in colour, ie. not pink and to be truthful I didnt take much notice of her nipples before.
She had two 15 minute ties with stud dog.I mated her at her last season.(same two 15 minute ties), but she did not fall, had her scanned. however this time was going to wait and see!! but the wait is killing me.
She seems to be unusually scroungy for food, but dont know if to increase her food in case she is not pregnant like last time. I may ring the vet this week to see if they can possibly palpate and confirm or not.

Palpation normally needs to be doen before 28 days, or after 6 weeks.
I think if she has clear mucous discharge this is often a good sign of pregnancy. Have a look and see if this is present, it was with my bitch both times.

my bitch has a clear sticky discharge ocassionally and my 9 month old pup is very interested in sniffing her behind every time he gets the chance which he didnt even do when she was in season.
phoned 2 vets today and one said they would be able to feel pups and one said maybe, but one has a scanner which i didnt know but was told price would be £30 or £40, dont know why they couldnt give me exact price. will ring for more info tomorrow.
One vet wanted to charge me £22 consultation fee just for palpation so may have scan after all, especially as its local.
When checking your prices, make sure the scan charge includes the consultation fee.....whilst I'm sure it does, this way you don't have a suprise when you come to pay....;)
My mum paid £25 for consulation and scan from her vet so like calmstorm mentioned check to make sure otherwise you could end up paying alot more
when i phoned to book my girl in for a scan i was told that it would cost between £20 and £30, am thinking now maybe it depends on the size of your dog..
the vet didn't see much on scan said there was "something there" told me to come back again in another two weeks ,so charged me £10 each time. i was pretty sure within those two weeks that she was pregnant. decided to take her back again. the vet said that she was having five possibly 6 puppies. she delivered 5 healthy babies.
so only cost me £20

We were charged £45 for a scan at 5 weeks- this included a photograph too - although the scanner wouldnt confirm numbers- Her Libship went on to have six girlys

Hi
just thought i would let you know i didnt get my girl scanned in the end because she suddenly had a growth spurt and body shape changed dramatically over a few days and so i just took her for a consultation and the vet said she could feel something(although not guaranteed of course) so it looks like systems are GO!!
Hopefully we should have our whelping date for 10 April, I am so excited as she didnt fall in her last mating.

I think my vet is trying to rob me - they wanted to send me to the hospital in Wanstead and charge £101!!!

The sheep scanner is £55 so I'm doing that instead. :-D
