Bonnie 7.5 mths was really sniffing with great interest at lamposts, gateposts etc today on her walk. She's never stopped to sniff for very long before. Do you think this could be a sign that her first season is going to happen soon? It's been 5 years since I had a dog with seasons so need reminding!

Hi Hamster,

I can't honestly say my girls sniff gates, posts, etc more (or at all really!) but they do wee more when in season to leave their "perfume" for prospective suitors

At 7.5 months this could well be the start of her season or at least some hormonal changes (which can go on almost invisibly for a couple of months or more before a proper "show").  Keep a close eye on her and check regularly for signs of swelling of her v#lva and use a white tissue to check for bloodspots - particularly after she's been lying down/asleep for a while :)

My most recent youngster became quite clingy and a bit windy around unusual objects/sounds etc for about 8 weeks before she finally came into her first season (at 21 MONTHS!) but I do think her hormones were flaring for some time before anyway.  Unfortunately although the "Book of the Bitch" is an excellent read and guide to all things girly, the bitches themselves don't read it so rarely perform to cue :D

Hope some of this helps!
regards Teri

Thanks Teri. It's just that she was so noticably interested in what must be male scent today.  It may well be that my little girl is growing up and having some hormonal changes! Nothing else of note though and the boys we meet aren't showing anymore interest than usual. Will keep my eyes open.
