Topic Dog Boards / Showing / companion show ?
- By Trevor [gb] Date 08.03.07 05:32 UTC
I am organising a Companion show to raise some funds for school and it just struck me - why do I need to apply to the KC for a Licence ? - I do know that 'fun' dog shows don't need to but why do regular Companion shows need this ? - and why the restriction on the number and type of pedigree classes ?. We are trying to raise funds so that some of our severely disabled children can have a holiday at the seaside this summer - the  local riding centre is donating their facilities - I've got sponsorship from lots of local businesses around the school to pay for some really plush rosettes and 'goodies' but why does the KC need to be paid so that I can hold the show ? - do they provide public liability insurance with their licence ? - if not what exactly am i paying for :confused:

For your insurance you will get:

£2.5 million Public Liability Insurance will cover you:

If property or buildings you have leased or rented are damaged
If a person or an animal is killed, injured or falls ill, as a result of an incident happening at your Kennel Club licensed Companion Dog Show or as a result of branded goods, food or drink you have supplied at the show
This policy will cover you for:

any compensation and costs awarded against you by a court if it decides you are legally responsible for the incident, and;

legal costs and expenses for defending a claim against you arising from the incident.
legal costs and expenses for legal representation at a magistrate's court, coroner's inquest or inquiry.

I don't think the show license includes insurance - at least, we always pay for a separate insurance (not KC).

yep - I thought  that the insurance was an additional cost ( and one I do not mind paying :D) - I just wondered why we have to pay anything to the Kennel club and why they  restrict the classes that are held - these kind of shows are not qualifiers nor do they count towards any show awards (i.e Junior warrants etc) or help aspiring judges advance up the ladder - so why the need for any kind of licence at all ?

anyone know the answer ?

I think (but could be entirely wrong! :o) that if people exhibit their dogs at an unlicensed show they're no longer able to exhibit at 'proper' shows.

Hi all, unless things have changed in the last 18mths you are correct JG - thats if they get caught!!!.
no you don't get insurance with the license but you HAVE to arrange your own and must have the insurance certificate and the license available for inspection at the show.
