You know those EMS machines (Abtronic, FastAbs etc) ??

Has anyone used one and do they work?

They sound brilliant on the tv, but are they too good to be true? Surely they cant make claims that are untrue and if they do what they say then why arent they advised by doctors for those people who cant exercise?

Your thoughts and/or experience of them appreciated.

They do not work and can cause burns on the areas where the electrodes are placed. They should be taken off the market.

I've got one but never used it that much! It did tone the muscle :) but doesn't get rid of any excess fat :( :( But i never had any problems with it.

I used one after I smashed my knee in a car accident. I wasn't able to do any weight bearing exercise but I needed to build up the muscles to protect and support the knee.

It worked really well and I don't have too may problems with my knee now.

Hi KEFitzgerald...... why do you say that they should be taken off the market? Also the ones I have seen dont have electrodes touching the skin, they are inside a belt, or so it looks!

I was just wondering if something has happened or you know something that I dont that makes you feel this way?

They say on the adverts that 10 minutes are = to 600 sit ups, why doesnt that burn fat as well as build muscle?
I suppose I dont really know how they work other than whats been said on the tv and I know you cant always believe all you see on tv, but wouldnt it be nice if you popped on a belt switched it on and it did a whole routine of exercise for you....?

Hi I have a friend who used one daily in conjunction with a diet and she has a wicked six pack!! Go for it....

Hi, I'm thinking of getting one of them, let me know if it works or not.
I suppose it will burn fat, indirectly if nothing else. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism works, so I would have thought that toning the muscles would reduce fat in the long run.

The nurses at the hospital where I work swear by them, Slendertone being the favourite. As with most things you get what you pay for so a cheap one is false economy. I've just got one myself and will let you know if it works!

Mine has now broken, overworked I suspect! I've tried replacing the pads but to no avail, it just couldn't get through last night's tagliatelle! Back to the sit ups.

Hello!

I'm thinking of getting one of these things, and really don't know whether it's worth it or not! By the sounds of it there is quite a conflict of opinion! Did you get your money back when it didn't work?!

My friend has one- she's slim anyway- but can't shift the *baggy skin/loose muscles* off her belly- she was bought one of these last year for Christmas- and used it loads the first half of this year- as she was going on holiday and was determined to wear a bikini (and feel comfortable) rather than swimming costume- it's worked wonders- she got in the bikini:)

I have had one for years, just bought meself a new one - all singing all dancing one - they do work, they don't cause me any problems, it's just finding the time and doing it regularly. I'm still a big girl - wouldn't be any other way cos of my thyroid, but they certainly help. Haven't been dieting or excercising properly - but have gone from a size 24 to a size 20 - must be doing something right.

So in my honest opinion - get one - try it - use it regularly and you will get results.

Nikki,
Is it the belt type? and are you allowed to say the make?
I've always fancied trying one but thought there must be a catch since they make it sound too easy.

Hi Dot,

No i don't have a belt one - too many fat bits for that - I've got one with pads that i can place anywhere - don't know if i can put the name - so will just say it's in argos and it's the dearest one they do, like i said all singing all dancing - shiatsu massages etc. The only thing that's a pain with it is placing the pads, takes a while, but it's got a brill abs pack with it - that u can really feel working - so i think it's worth it just for that.
