OH had a pacemaker fitted for tachycardia and heart block but there are a lot of reasons why they are fitted :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 03.03.07 17:00 UTC
I get palpitations, but ECGs have shown there's no underlying problem and I just have to sit up straight and take a deep breath, and everything gets back to normal.

I think i may be getting something like this, what happens when you get them?

Fiona - if you are having any problems DO go and talk to your doctors straight away :) Hopefully, it is nothing at all and he/she will be able to put your mind at rest. If there is a problem, it is better sorted ASAP before it either gets more serious or you make it worse by worrying :) :) :) When you've done that, treat yourself to some chocolate ;) ;) :D

hubby actually had a heart attack about 18 months ago - it happened at work and he just suddenly felt sick and weak - no pain/numbness/feeling of pressure - he even travelled home from London to Lincolnshire that evening but when he got home he was grey and I called an ambulance straight away - he had 3 months off work and is on loads of medication now  but prior to his attack he had no warning symptoms at all - worrying really

I keep trying to persuade him to take early retirement but he just loves his job too much - we have had some (heated) arguements over it ! - MEN !!!!

Heart problems is such an enormous subject with numerous problems/levels of seriousness that it is very difficult to make comparisons, especially at your age, Fiona :D :D Just try not to worry :)

The heart is a vital organ in your body when you are messing around with stethiscopes in first aid class and told that you heart dosent sound right, by a friend and lecteur whos an ex vet nurse , then you go away any think about it and see connections from your life how can you not worry?

Hi Fiona,
Was going in for an operation & had to have a pre op. When the consultant was checking my heart she told me it didnt sound right & thought there was a problem. Spent a sleepless weekend worrying till the heart check. Turned out to be an innocent murmur I'd had since childhood that my mum had been told was gone.
Best to get it checked out if only for your own peace of mind.

My husband has had angina (as my father did) and has had a quadruple heart bypass - there was no doubt about his symptoms.  He usually walks several steps in front of me (so romantic!!!!!) but he started slowing down and walking behind me because he was in pain.  However heart problems are not always heart related.  My sister has thyroid problems - the opposite of me - she has an overactive.  This can bring about heart beats that don't feel normal.  However if you drink too much coffee or you have stress you may experience palpitations - like your heart fluttering.   I have had odd pains across my chest off and on for years - knowing all of the above I got checked up I was told that it was muscular (I thought the heart was a muscle!)  Anyway the doctor wasn't worried so I haven't been.  The pains have gone away!!!!  That is my experience.  If you are worried you must get a check up - it could be something simple.  I hope it is.

I agree with the others...you mut have it checked out but try not to be overly worried.

I have a Pernicious Anaemia (vit. B12 deficiency) which affects the heart in that it has to work a bit harder to pump blood round the body as, in basic terms, the blood isn't carrying as much oxygen as it should under normal conditions.  I've only just been diagnosed - I didn't have any particular symptoms, it was picked up through routine blood tests - but a simple injection every few months should be enough to sort it out.

Don't worry too much; I've got a heart murmur which is apparently harmless although they refused my application to the RAF when I was 17 as it was during my medical it was discovered.  It raises it's ugly head every time I fill in a medical form, or have a medical exam - pre-op for example.  However, it's not a problem in everyday life, I just have a noisy heart valve.

What will be important is that you get it checked.

Hiya
I have an irregular heart beat and take beta blockers everyday to control it. It started when I couldn't sleep as my heart was absolutely racing and pounding for no reason at all - I thought I was going to die! I was so scared! Anyway one day I walked from lounge to kitchen with heart racing and then all went black because I'd passed out because of it. Next day I went to doc, had an ECG and was told I had an irregular heart beat. Doc said "it isn't normal, but its normal for you" Just about sums me up really! :D

Anyway, as others have said, pop along to the docs who'll put your mind at rest I'm sure.

That could be many things, Fiona - most of them not serious and easily treatable! Stress, anaemia, low blood sugar ... please, make a doctor's appointment and put your mind at rest. :) Worrying won't help.
- By ceejay Date 04.03.07 19:40 UTC
Fiona - just looked at your details - you are only a spring chicken - more than likely some sort of stress related thing - have you finished your college course?  Worry doesn't help either - Get on the phone in the morning and book that appointment - then you can put your mind to rest.  Oh yes that was what jeangenie said too.  I think we will all be back to you tomorrow to see if you have done it.

I am stressed alot of the time and all of those symtoms come when I am in a state. It can be really scary but now I know it is the start of a panic attack I am not quite so worried. Best just to go to a doctor and see what they say.
All the best

Like Anna, I suffered with panic attacks/anxiety for years - the symptoms do sound the same, but best to get checked out and put your mind at rest.
Take care,
Lisa

Those could be the symptoms of loads of things, like others have said get yourself to your GP & checked out
- By Lissie-Lou [gb] Date 05.03.07 20:14 UTC
Have you booked an appointment yet Fiona?  You really need to because worrying like this is going to make you feel much worse.
As I said before, I had all of those symptoms when I was having panic attacks - including the pains in neck, arms and shoulder.  I was so tense I'd get cramp in my arm and shoulder and awful pains across my chest and think I was having a heart attack.  Tests confirmed my heart was as strong as an Ox's!  So get yourself checked out, I'm sure there's nothing wrong, but to be on the safe side and to ease your mind, you need to.

Take care,
Lisa

Sounds like panic attacks to me too, but Fiona, you really need to get yourself to the doctors so that they can put your mind at rest!
Let us know how you get on!

Fee **big hugs** Just go to the doctors so they can find the problem and get you right! :) Please!
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 06.03.07 20:23 UTC
I also think that these symptoms are stress related rather than your heart but there's only one way to find out.  GO TO YOUR GP!!
