Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bleeding!

Just visited my Friend and noticed that her Dog (GSD) had blood on his tail, we initially thought it was coming form his back passage, but on closer investigation it looks more likely to be near the Anal Gland or the Anal Gland its self. Any ideas, she has got an appoitment with the Vet this afternoon but I thought I would see if you came up with any thing.

It could be anything Sheena. Just pray that it isn't Perianal Fistulas :-(

The other name is Anal Furunculosis, and it is a horrible condition hard to treat/manage!

I am going to the Vets with my Friend and her Dog, to help as Max does not like Vets, not his fault, I may add!
So fingers crossed X

Will get back to you.

The Vet did an internal examination(quickly I might add) and she could feel a swelling of his Anal Gland, so he has anti-biotics to take and has to go back to the Vets on Friday to be checked again, if the swelling has gone down then he has to continue on anti biotics, but, if the is no decrease in the swelling then there would have to be a further investigation under GA. So really we'll have to wait and see. So not out of the woods yet!

Thank you for your replies X
