Hi,
I have a very lonely female Staffy who is 3 years old. I would really like to get a friend for her and would like some advise on either getting another Staff dog or another breed, i have been looking at Pugs. She is very affectionate an very friendly with all dogs, not a nasty bone in her body, can anybody help me to make my Staffy happy again as she thrives in other dogs company.

Hi Mattie,
I am in Chiswick in West London. I have called a lady called Gwen in kent, who is sending out forms. I think the trouble with rescueing dogs is that they will not let you have a dog if you work full time, which i do. I have a dog walker who comes in for 3 hours a day and i am home by 5 but still i know what their procedures are.

Suzi not all rescues are so strict, particularly if you are prepared to take on an older dog. I have done general rescue for years, and the right home will get a dog if they can show that they have commitment. Don't be afraid of taking on an older dog in rescue (3 upwards), some people say "It will never be my dog", but the reality is very very different. Dogs adapt and soon become so much a part of your life that you will never remember what life was like without them.

How true, I took in a bitch at 7 years and she was soon part of the family. And we loved her as we do those we have had from pups. She died at 14 yrs so we had the pleasure of her company for half her happy life.

Thats good news. I don't really mind what dog i go for but the Staffy rescue seemed really helpful, they will do checks etc which is good. I am very committed, my Staffy is such a wonderful dog, i just want to see her thrive. I know she gets lonely, she thinks shes human, i'm sure. Finger crossed the Staffy rescue can find me a new addition to the family thats in need of a loving home.
