Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Judging Appointment?

I have been asked if I would think Judging a ringcraft match night in a couple of months time. Should I take up the offer?
I am very experienced in dogs, but I have not judged before although I have trained at ringcraft and I have gone over alot of dogs. It is a bit daunting though.

Ringcraft matches are the perfect way to start judging IMO.  If you feel up to it and know your conformation and movement then I say go for it - and above all - enjoy it :d

Hi Beagler, I understand your conserns perfectly. I've only judged a couple of times and I hated every second of it. Now when I'm invited, I apologise profusely and politely decine. I just get myself into a state of high anxiety, and I get no pleasure out of it at all.

So If you feel confident enough to enjoy yourself, I'd say do it, but it's not for me. Maybe I need a litre of Rescue Remedy.

I have judged a Match and an exemption show, bullied into it, but like you hated it.

Ahh it's a minefield. I agree with Debs that matches are a great place to start judging, then exemption shows...however if you currently get on with everyone at your ringcraft club that may change, you can only have one best in match ;) :D

I've judged a dog match, it was great fun but I did notice that some reacted badly to their placing   I didn't give bad comments or anything (bad enough to be placed low without adding insult to injury ;) ) it was just their own reaction ;) but you do have to be prepared for it.  I did need a litre of Rescue remedy first tho, but then I tend to worry about things like that anyway   It's a great learning curve and if you show, it's great to have some idea of the other side of things ;) ;)
