I've been to an exemption show today (not showing as Phoebie too young) and there was a gathering of Champdoggers.
I know how Melody and Hudson did but I'll let her tell you herself :D
Let's just say she is very happy !!
Jackie H and Jackie were also there and had placings too.
At first I couldn't see why "The Thug" was so nicknamed but must admit after 2 hours I understand why but he is lovely ;)
Sara

Woohoo ...it was GREAT to meet up with you and JackieH and Jackie ...so nice to put faces to names after being on Champdogs :D
We will have to do it again ......and I can watch how sweetie pie Phoebie grows ...she is lovely. JackieH's Elkhounds are gorgeous too , so many really nice dogs there today :)

Crufts next year Melody, woo hoo

Not if H's behaviour carries on like it is doing :\
Put him in the kitchen today whilst I went out (he has been a bit naughty when left in living room , solved that for a while by giving a bone but that soon stopped occupying him)
Came home after 50 minutes to find the frisge open , margarine all eaten , a pile of poo in the kitchen and Hudson yipping like an 8 week old puppy. He was SO panicked that he has drunk a whole bowl of water (he wont drink whilst he is in the kitchen)
Left him with a buster ball (which he knows how to operate) , rag toy , water , the bone he loves....
I am at my wits end and feeling very low at the moment. He WILL NOT occupy himself at all (never has done). He just gets hysterical when he is left (and always has done)

awwwwwwwww Melody :(
{{{{{{{{[hugs}}}}}}}}}}}} I'm sorry but I have to admit to smiling about the scene that must have met you when you walked in. Lucky you hadn't just got a weeks shopping in and he'd eaten it all.
I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions for you on how to get round this other than crate (a VERY BIG one). Only other thing I can think of is a radio left on and a child safety lock thing on the fridge? I'm lucky as we have outdoor kennels and runs to leave our two in if we're both out so they can't do too much damage there.
If it's any consolation "Sweetie Pie Phoebie" did two poos and 2 piles of sick in the house the other day despite the door to outside being open !! We have laminate flooring in that room but she used the rug for it all. I've put it down to teething and heat as she seemed happy enough about it all and carried on as normal afterwards.
Dogs - don't you just love them :(

We did the crate thing when we first got him ...same thing really ..absolute hysterics! I dont mean whimpering and a bit of barking here ..I mean HYSTERICS....he almost froths at the mouth.
I always leave the radio on for him and he is the same if I leave him outside the house (ie if we had a run and kennels) it is the being on his own that seems to petrify him....I am baffled. He is outside at the moment with the patio doors closed and he is howling like a banshee. I never let him in whilst he makes a noise ..I always wait until he is quiet ....*sigh*
As to the pooing ..the ONLY time he has ever pooed in the house is if he has been put in the kitchen whilst we go out. He has been housetrained since he was 9 weeks old , he got it really quickly bless him ..only 2 pees in the house after that time and never a poo EXCEPT when he has been put in the kitchen.

have you done a search on seperation anxiety for any tips ?
Hope you can get it sorted Melody as it's so distressing to see them like that. Maybe a new thread on this subject would be a good idea ?

Sounds like my living room this morning :( I could hear the dogs in the living room which they had opened the door to and let themselves in. I started to panic as I ran downstairs. They had played tug of war with Laurens PJ's (nothing left of them) and chewed everything that had been left out...toys, brushes etc.etc.
They were extremely pleased with themselves though and couldn't understand what they had done wrong.

Mel
Don't have any suggestions (other than let me know if you find a solution !!) but just wanted to let you know that I completely understand how you feel, the mock goes from angel to devil depending on which way the wind's blowing :D
He's definately the J Lo of the Dobermann world. It's not so bad when we're out (but can't go for very long at a time) as I think he knows there's no point creating if we're not here. But when we're here, he never leaves us alone. He has two modes, play and sleep and nothing inbetween. He never just lies down and relaxes. Hopefully, he'll grow into it !!
Sending big hugs and sympathy.

Hi Mel - did tell you not to think you were over the worst, don't worry spitz do grow up eventualy just wait till he is 4 and you will be suprised at the improvement. In the mean time thought of getting another - now you know why I have 4. Don't worry the good bits always out number the bad - else the canine race would be extinct. Jackie H

Yeah ..I have thought about getting another :D
In fact I wonder if that is partly his problem? He seems unable to amuse himself .....I just have to wait for a while until he is old enough to handle another puppy :D
Not looking at anyone in particular of course :D
I dont think this is down to bad behaviour as such though Jackie ...it is separation anxiety. I have begun today , shutting the door whenever I go to the loo or kitchen , to keep him out ..will see how he gets on. Have to say as well ..I think because hubby is away all week it makes it harder to deal with ..much better when there is someone else there to talk to about it.

No he is not being naughty, just trying to get his own way. My youngest creats merry hell if I decide to shut the bathroom door, trouble with living in a bungalow. It is difficult to deal with their demands as in a way it is flattering to be held in such high regard. Is there a time when he would normaly go quite (quiter) like after a walk or food. Mine always go back to sleep mid-morning if so chose that time to pop out for 5 min and if you can give him ten mins of your time when you return, doing the things he likes. If you can't go for 5 then try leaving him whilst you just a walk up the garden and back. My idea of having another was tongue in cheek have always left at least 2 yrs between mine, don't have the courage to have them any closer.
You could try a stuffed Kong or play ball, but I think he may be trying to get his own way, and every time you let him in so the noise does not worry other people, he has in his mind won. But having met you I quess you know that and you like me can't let him keep shouting so you have no choice but to give in. Bad a raising kids really, but they do learn quicker. JH

I was looking through the old threads and have decided to bump this one up for a very special reason ..I hope no one minds...?
If you read my account of Hudsons behaviour above ....you will get a reasonably good idea of how a lot of adolescent dogs behave. We went through the above and far worse for about 7-10 months all told :)
However , and this is the point of the bumping , Hudson is now nearly two and is fantastic! He still goes mental at dog shows ..I have a feeling he isn't too comfortable around LOTS of other dogs , it seems to overload his brain ...but that aprt he is wonderful. He can be left in the house with NO chewing , pooing or howling , he is great with kids , he mostly ignores other dogs (unless they go at him - Malamute trait unfortunately :D ) It just shows that hard work and persitance CAN pay off...as long as you have someone who can advise you and make you feel as though you are not alone in the world with your Kevin
:D
Melody :)

I'm sorry, maybe I've missed it but what did he get at the show?

Oh crickey ..that was his first show , a little exemption ..he got 1st Puppy , 3rd Open Dog and BPIS ;)
