Dogs are meat eaters so why force them to be vegitarian or vegan? Can't see the sense in owning a meat eating animal if the owner can't face feeding it meat.

Its not that I cant face feeding my dog meat, I cook meat for my family as its my choice not to eat it. I have also looked into organic dog food which is not meat free.

Wafcol do a vegertarian food that is avalible in some pet shops.

There is a company that specialises in veggie/vegan dog food however can't remeber their name.

However your dog will lack so much on a veggie diet without meat protins etc.

I am sure I saw an article on a vegan dog in one of my doggy mags recently I will try and find it and give you details the dog seemed to be thriving on it

thats what I was worried about, that he would lack protiens etc. Hes a German Shepherd and his digestive system can be delicate at times. Thats why I thought that something meat free would be easier to digest.

I'm not an expert on feeding but I do know that dogs' digestive systems are not the same as humans.  I think (ready to be corrected on this) dogs do not find vegetables easy to digest, quite the contrary.

I'm sure someone will notice this thread soon and advise you on the various ways that you can help feed your dog.  In the meantime can you be more specific and explain what you mean by "delicate" digestive system.  If you are feeding kibble it might just be that you need to try different brands as there might be particular ingredients in one that affects him that another brand might not contain.

I've been vegetarian for 25 years, and I feed my dog NatureMenu and Arden Grange. It's my choice to veggie, but my dog should naturally be a meat-eater and I feel I shouldn't force my choice on her.

Although I admit that when she's having raw chicken wings/ox tails/bones I throw them into the garden, then run indoors and let her get on with it :).

I'm a vegan but my dogs aren't I feed my dogs organic meat & complete food I know exactly how the animals that the meat comes from are treated as I know the farmer/butcher very well.
