Topic Dog Boards / Health / Do Intervet own Virbac Canigen Vax?
- By Christine Date 13.01.07 21:57 UTC
Been doing a little looking around & have found what looks like Intervet were/are the Marketing Authorisation holders for Virbacs Canigen DHPPiL.

Could someone have a look at the link & see what you think., you`ll see the holders name at the bottom of page.

Having read it, I'm none the wiser Christine! :D  Certainly if you do a Google search, the two names come up separately and if Intervet did own them, would there be any point in them both making the same type of vaccines or marketing them under different brand names?  Or am I completely missing the point (wouldn't surprise me! :P :P)?

Hi A :)

Well, as Intervet dohold the marketing authorisation (according to VMD)for Virbacs Canigen vax, the Canigen vaccines can only come from Intervet, they can`t come from anywhere else!!

The ingredients are the same, immunological properties code is the same as well. I`m just curious as to why they`d sell it under a different name & all that blurb about **:No information is available on the use of this vaccine with any other except**  blah blah blah etc etc

Not too sure either JG, but thanks anyway :D

Hmmm interesting..........

I read ****somewhere*** that Internet have/had agreements with virbac SA where they work in partnership.  Could it be Intervet are the Marketing auth holder for the Canigen range while virbac is the distributor?

Yep, I think so S, but why would such a huge firm need a distributor, their Nobivac vax which they distribute themselves, are popular worlwide

And thanks for the link as well, I`d found it & emailed them but haven`t had a reply  but it certainly looks like Intervet are the manufacturers of Canigen vax

I'm only guessing here C but it's possible that Intervet may have an agreement with Virbac where they manufacture some of their Canigen range while keeping Virbac's brand name under licence.  Quite a few companies do this, it can be more cost effective to outsource.

Some info here C...

'Canigen in Europe is manufactured by Intervet and some of the Canigen brand products are marketed under licence by Virbac'

I don't know if the information here makes things clearer or muddies the water further!

I think, but not 100% sure, one manufactures Canigen and the other markets it - seemed like that from all the correspondence I received from them after Spangler's reaction to the Virbac Canigen DHPPi vaccine :(
Maria

Arrh right M, was it Intervet who you corresponded with??

Yep, it does seem Intervet are the manufacturers of it, seems strange to me
