Topic Dog Boards / General / Car Crates

I'm currently looking to get a double car crate for the car and so would welcome and recommendations of companies to consider.

I am currently using a Gaurdsman crate which was made for another car (not sure which as we got it 2nd hand many years ag0) which has been fine when we just had one dog but I can only fit one dog in it and now have 3 - 2 of which need segregating so need something new. Plus the current crate wastes a lot of the boot space and also is not easy to get in and out as it doesn't fit through the boot opening.

I would love another Gaurdsman (also had a tailgate from them for another car) but not sure if I can justify the cost so am wanting to consider others which a built to fit the car.

Any recommendations considered

I can personally recommend Barnesbrook http:/www.dogcages.net Had a cage made for my OH's car and very speedy service and great value for money.  Excellent workmanship and a very helpful chap.

He can tailor make to most cars and requirements.  Folds down in car for easy removal or can slide in and out depending on your requirements.

Barjo are also excellent.

I haven't had a new one recently but all mine have come from MMG. Excellent quality and they will change size of doors etc when they are making the cage. I had smallish doors changed so that my rotti wouldn't catch her head or back whilst jumping in. They also do a range of the bolts / locks and you can choose the type you like.
At shows people used to stop and ask where the cage / guards came from as they look really nice. And I found them no more expensive than anywhere else.

I've used MMG and Barjo and would recommend them both. They both sometimes do second hand cages so why not email them and see if they have your car/requirements.

Hamster baskets are I believe cheaper and lots of people speak highly of them although I've never used them myself.

I have a Barnesbrook too and it maximises available space as you unfold it in the car so it's not limited by the size of the opening. You can also collapse it quickly if you need to change a tyre or remove the cage. The service was great and the cage was made very quickly. It is also very quiet; I have a sound sensitive dog so that was important. My dog still refuses to go into it so I can't use it but that's only because he likes to see mummy throw money around :-D

I wouldn't want anything bar a Lintran crate for mine.

Thanks for all the replies - have had a look at them all and  currently considering the Barnesbrook as opposed to the Gaurdsman and am at a stage where I cant decide - although with the difference in price/storage space the Barnesbrook is coming out just ahead. Although how does it compare in strength? Ive always found the Gaurdmans to be really solid which is what I like about them - is this somthing I would loose with a Barnesbrook or are they very similar.

I have a Barnesbrook double one and I'm very pleased with it.  2 Doors, central divider and rear escape doors, also folds down flat so you can take it out of not needed.  Bought it just a little over a year ago but I'm changing my car soon and it won't fit the new one so I'll be selling.  What car do you need one for - I might be able to help.

I have just ordered a double made to measure crate from MMG, with locks included and wider door openings.:)
