I've been sent all the advertising blurb about this foreign language course for children and I'm sure it's the biz, but how much??    I know you can't put a price on learning or your children's future, but I've a feeling it could be very expensive to buy :(   after all nowhere in the blurb is money mentioned (always a BAD sign in my experience)  except for "send £6.95 now to 'borrow' muzzy for your child"

I'd love to get it for Little-Un but can I afford it??  and I'd like to know this before 'borrowing' it ;)  could be one disappointed child if we sent it back because we just can't afford it ;)

Anyone have any knowledge or experience of it??

I wouldn't waste your money. We bought it when Boy was young and, to be honest, it's pants. :( It cost a small fortune, too.
*makes note to put it on ebay*

I have to agree with what JG says and also *note to put on ebay if can find all the bits!*

Think you can pay monthly but from distant memory was £200??  Really can't remember!

JG

Why is it pants just out of interest ?

Why is it pants? Hard to put my finger on it, but it didn't seem to actually teach any of the basics. What I remember is having two almost identical animated story videos, one in French and the other in English, and after watching them over and over a child was supposed to have grasped the language. To be honest it seemed to be as much use in learning a language as watching 'Brief Encounter' (for example) in Cantonese. Eventually you'd be able to repeat the story, but it wouldn't be much use in general conversation.

So were the stories about everyday life type of senarios or more fairytale type stories ?
- By rachelsetters Date 09.01.07 12:12 UTC
Hard to explain Lucy - there was a princess, Muzzy some type of hairy monster, involved a love story between gardener and princess - it was weird to be honest Lucy!  My girls got very bored with it soon - lots of weird songs and some counting but just weird!

Errmm ... a furry giant alien landed his spaceship in Versailles or somewhere and the strange French royal family made friends with him, and they had a robbery or something and they had to chase the thieves ... or baddies were trying to catch the alien (Muzzy) ... or something like that. The gardener ('Jean' in the French version, but not 'John' in the English translation) saved the day.

About all I learned from it was how to say "I am fat" ("Je suis grosse") like the queen, and "Off we go!" (Emmenez-le! - sounds like "Arm-and-a-leg") as you leap on your motorbike. Not terribly useful really!

Well done JG - much better description but I don't think we ever got past the first chapter!!!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.01.07 12:19 UTC
It was just wierd. Very disappointing.
- By LJS Date 09.01.07 12:19 UTC
Oh so no use if they go on a French Exchange trip then  :D :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.01.07 12:23 UTC
It depends where they go! If they're swapping with aliens in Versailles it'll be brilliant! :D :D

Actually I shouldn't knock it. There's one with a bid of £50 on ebay so I'm now going to say it's brilliant and fab so that I get bids when I <strike>offload</strike> sell mine! ;) :D :D

MMmmmm it might have been useful for Florian our French exchange lad who stayed with us last year , I think he thought I was from another planet :p :p

From the website it looks like you can get a free 30 day trial and if you choose to keep it, you will be charged '5 monthly instalments of £24.60 (VHS) or £28.60 (DVD) each.' http://muzzyonline.co.uk/muzzylandingpage.asp?adkey=155090Ey

Jax :)

WOW - Thanks everyone for the input, didn't expect such a response :)

Looks like I better give it a big miss then!

At that price I'd expect something a tad better than aliens landing in versailles

I can't understand it (in any language ;) ) the BBC have some really useful language series on the learning zone for adults of all abilities - and they're free to record!, why don't they do the same for children??

Think I'll try the learning zone series for Little-Un.  That way he'll be all prepared for when he's a grown up  :D
- By Trevor [gb] Date 10.01.07 06:14 UTC
go on the bbc website for loads of interactive games and lessons for your child ( including French)

www.bbc.co.uk/schools   or try www.primaryresources.co.uk

no need to buy anything extra ! :D
