Topic Other Boards / Foo / CD Daily Quiz!!
- By Harmony Date 06.01.07 22:57 UTC
Ok, what's going on:confused:  Due to one thing & another I've not been on the forum much lately but have continued to play the quiz (plus several others) to try & get my brain working   Anyway my question is not going to be popular with some  but I want to know if there is some cheating going on?

It's very sad that recently nearly all of the dog quizzes I'm on have started to have what can only be some cheating going on :(  Trust me I'm not a sore loser, I just do the quizzes for me & as a bit of fun but sadly the fun is being taken out of some of the quizzes :(  I can't see how it's possible that people can get times of less than 30 seconds without already knowing all of the answers?  Yes I know you can get repeat questions from quiz to quiz if you're lucky or you've had the question before but some of the times are ridiculous!!

If cheating is going on then what sad people & I will stick with my honest quizzes (including my own) until the cheating stops :(
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 06.01.07 22:59 UTC
I've gone under 30 seconds on several occasions, and there was certainly no cheating involved. My job involves fast reading and comprehension, so I guess that helps ... although only if I know the answer or can make a good guess.

Yes I appreciate that & have had the rare 28 sec game myself but I was trying to be a bit more tactful!!  Have a look yourself.
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 06.01.07 23:13 UTC
Oops, did I blow your tact? LOL

My scores have been abysmal lately, but I've had some pretty fast ones in my time if I knew the answers (i.e. got questions that I knew the answers to, rather than had pre-warning).

I know this is raised every so often, but I just find it really hard to believe that people would be that bothered to cheat on a fun quiz. Perhaps I'm being naive.

Well on one of the quizzes both borderpride and I am on, there was terrible cheating going on. When the subject is the same every day, and people go from high times with  just 4 or 5 right answers, to suddenly less than 30 secs and ten out of ten every day, then it becomes obvious -and on the quiz in question the people did eventually admit it as well, and left. So yes, people do cheat....

The sad thing is, with all the cheating that is going on, people with genuine good scores tend not to be believed either as everyone becomes so suspicious.

Perhaps we should all just be pleased we've got full enough lives not to stoop so low. :D

Marina has a Pollyanna moment LOL!

I know Marianne, sad or what!!  The quizzes can be set to Cheat Prevention, not sure why these quiz owners don't set it so
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.01.07 14:16 UTC
'Mixed Bag' is the only topic that can be set to 'cheat prevention'.
- By Harmony Date 07.01.07 14:23 UTC
Ahh so it is!!  Just read it properly (on my own quiz)  However, when my sister has played the quizzes she's never had the same questions as me?  Can't ask her about recently as she's been offline for a while now.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.01.07 14:34 UTC
Last month I did a test and played under two different names for a couple of days - and despite waiting several hours between IDs, got identical quizzes both times. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be a way to limit IPs automatically to one play per day. Instead the admin has to go into the database and watch who's played, spot patterns, and put a temporary ban on IPs after they've been used each day, then remove the ban the next day.
- By Harmony Date 07.01.07 14:42 UTC
I wonder if it's a new'ish thing?  I understand what you're saying about watching IP's & I think that's obviously why a couple of quizzes have gone to Mixed Bag only:confused:
- By newfiedreams Date 06.01.07 23:14 UTC
Want me to play??? LOL What's the addy mate?? I want a look! :D :D ;)
- By Harmony Date 06.01.07 23:25 UTC

As far as I can see (checking back through results,so looking at 'standings' and 'hall of fame')
Whatever 'cheating' may (or may not..) be taking place it doesnt seem to have a major affect over time..
Im of the mind that it all evens out, or thats what the 'evidence' says to me...?

The problem with the topic 'Mixed bag' is that it will at certain points mirror the same topic being played in other tournaments, so its quite feasible that (for example) those of us playing the Smudge ' CD Daily quiz' and the Munkeemojo "champdoggers quiz' will get same questions.

Some questions are even carried over on the same quiz Im sure we've all experienced the delight of  a question popping up that you've already had a few days previous!

By its very nature its not really indicative.. so I shouldnt waste time getting competative! :D
As you say it should just be a bit of fun, and a chance to hopefully learn something new.
- By jolin_71 [gb] Date 07.01.07 01:18 UTC
Where do  you find the quiz please?
- By HuskyGal Date 07.01.07 01:30 UTC
Lin,
PM Jeangenie for link and request to join the CD daily quiz and I'll pm you the other one :)
- By Harmony Date 07.01.07 01:59 UTC
Was this for me   I already play both (very badly at times ) plus several others including my own!
- By HuskyGal Date 07.01.07 02:04 UTC

- By kizzycav [gb] Date 08.01.07 13:31 UTC
I would love to'pm' someone to find out about quizesbut while I think 'pm'means persdonal message, how do I do it? (Can't help being thick!
- By Annie ns Date 08.01.07 13:39 UTC
You can either click on the person's ID on the open forum and one of the options you will get is to send them a personal message, or you can click on Messages at the top of the page but you'll then have to type in the person's ID yourself. :)  And you certainly aren't thick - I remember what it was like when I joined! :D
- By kizzycav [gb] Date 08.01.07 14:30 UTC
Thank you
- By Harmony Date 07.01.07 01:30 UTC
Hi Liv, I understand everything you say & as you know I play both CD quizzes & have had duplicate questions on the odd, rare occasion but even so, times so fast along with some of the new names having appeared recently   Sorry but I don't buy it, too much of a coincidence!!

I'm by no means being competitive with the quizzes, I play for fun :D  but the fun is taken out of it when it looks like there could be some cheating going on :(
- By freespirit10 Date 07.01.07 09:46 UTC
Well I can't be accused of cheating I'm always on the bottom of the board with the longest time!!! I'm just very slow and normally Brooke is on my lap and I promise you it is not easy to use a computer with a great big labrador on your lap!!!
- By LJS Date 08.01.07 11:25 UTC
Brooke is on my lap and I promise you it is not easy to use a computer with a great big labrador on your lap!!!

What a great idea

Yes I am the same as I have Moose and Dudley on my lap when I am trying to do the quiz  Two Labs and it is almost impossible :D :D :D

Phew at least I now can use this instead of being thick :D :D :D

I'm not even gonna try and top that one, there is no way I'm gonna try and get 3 labs on my lap whilst using the computer!!!
- By LJS Date 08.01.07 11:52 UTC
I could always say that Moose does the quiz as she isn't the brightest star in the sky :eek: :D :D
- By Soli Date 07.01.07 07:48 UTC
I can't see how it's possible that people can get times of less than 30 seconds without already knowing all of the answers?

If you're referring to my time yesterday of 22 seconds, the answer is simple... I read the first few words of each question and, if I think I know it, I guess the answer.  Sometimes it works (as in yesterday) sometimes it doesn't (as in the day before LOL).  You could always ask JG if my IP was used more than once yesterday on the 'smudge' quiz to put your mind at rest.  I would imagine the answer is no (unless I share an IP with someone else which is possible but unlikey) as I only play under one name :)

It's a bit of fun so I can't imagine WHY anyone would want to cheat in the first place - but then again I can't imagine why anyone would get uptight about it either.

- By daxilady [gb] Date 07.01.07 08:54 UTC
same here what quiz? didnt know there was one
- By sam Date 07.01.07 10:27 UTC
guess it depends on luck in some cases. I do another trivia quiz, where there are only about 7 or 8 of us playing regularly (and yes i have won that sometimes too!) and sometimes i then go to the CD one and get the same questions I had the day before or on the other quiz........so are you meant to pretend you dont know the answers or are you allowed to answer the questions quickly??? I dont think that is cheating, just getting llucky!! On other occassions you can get 10/10 on completely new questions, as many of us have done.  Think its a shame that i have been banned from the quiz as i used to enjoy doing it. Still I can still do the dogdata one fortunately.
- By Harmony Date 07.01.07 11:05 UTC
Sam I know exactly what you're saying, occasionally, though not very often, I'm lucky enough to get some repeat questions (I play about 10 different quizzes) & othertimes I'm lucky & get questions I know the answers to so get a 10/10 but that wasn't the point I was making   I wanted to know how someone, in this case Debs, can suddenly get a time of 22 secs to which she has answered :)  If you were playing fairly then IMO it is wrong that you have been banned from quizzes.
- By Harmony Date 07.01.07 10:54 UTC
Fair enough Debs, I apologise.  However, one more question, if that is how you always play, how come you don't normally get times under 40 secs   I hope you understand why I wondered what I did?

I don't normally get 'uptight' about the quizzes as they are just for fun but recently on some of the dog quizzes I play there has been some cheating going on & not always with people playing under 2 or more names!

Again I apologise, last night I was tired & in a lot of pain, on too many painkillers & obviously my fuse is a little shorter than normal!!
- By Soli Date 07.01.07 11:25 UTC
No worries :)

It's not how I always play - all depends on how engaged the brain cells are :d  I often think I know about about the subject for the day and go for a 10 (which would be slower) - aaaaaaand then I realise I know nothing about it at all! LOL  Like I said sometimes it works, more often it doesn't.   Sometimes it's just a case of point and click! :d

- By Harmony Date 07.01.07 14:35 UTC
Ha ha!!  Think my brain cells up & left :p  I've often just done point & click as haven't had any idea of the subject & even then I'm normally still rubbish lol!!
- By Goldmali Date 07.01.07 19:23 UTC
I just looked at the possible settings for the quiz I run myself (cats, domestic and wild species, -if anyone wants to join PM me!) and it says something about more settings to prevent cheating will soon be available.
