I'm a little worried about murphy today, but i'm not sure if i'm just being a paranoid mum. Hes been a little odd all day, eating well, very active, but this afternoon he appeared to be shaking a little and breathing very fast, but he settled down ok so i presumed he was probably shadow watching. (His favourite obsession.)
THis evening he has been sleeping on me and for every breath in and out that my retriever took he took 5! His heart is beating quite fast too. It reminds me of when he got hold of lots of chocolate and had a chocolate high, but he was bloated with that, and to our knowledge he hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary today. The thursday before christmas he was acting like he had mild kennel cough, so i got some antibiotics for him, and he stopped coughing almost immediately. Today he has had a few coughs again. Hes only 2 so i cant imagine its a heart problem suddenly emerging, but you know what its like you imagine the worst. I don't really want to bother the vets if its just me being totally paranoid, because apart from the fast breathing and pulse he is fine.

Although his coughing seemed to stop the day after the antibiotics, did you continue with the antibiotics until the full course was finished?

I've known people stop because their dog seems fine and of course the problem can then re-appear again.

One thing I never take a chance on is odd breathing rhythms and coughs they can soon spiral to something serious if not treated.

If he is the same tomorrow, don't worry about bothering your vet I would get him checked out.
