Does anyone know the situation with regards to adopting a dog in the UK and taking it to Germany. We currently live in Canada where my husband is serving with the British Forces. We have a young boxer and were in the middle of getting aanother one when we were kindley posted at short notice so the whole thing fell tthrough. We feel unable to come back to UK as the UK govt hasn't quite seen fit yet to allow animals from Canada into UK on a pet passport even though rabies appears to be more widespread in Europe, so our only other option was Germany. We want to get a boxer from the UK though and wanted to adopt. The problem we now foresee though is that we have no residence in UK that they can come and check and so will be unable to go through this process. The RSPCA refuse to allow adoptions through miltary families - apparently we're unrealiable as we move around a lot!! Irrelevant that I'm a professional with no children and an adorable little boxer! My husband may go away occassionally, but I don't! There don't appear to be many boxer rescue sites in Germany so we're really stuck now. Anyone got any advice. All we want is a playmate for our baby!

Doe sit have to be a rescue dog..

I have heard of a few breeders that sell white ones quite cheap..Just a suggestion..

Maybe if you went along and explained your circumstances they would view you differently..

Good luck.

Hi Wozzie,
Taking a dog from UK to Continental Europe is no biggie...just need current international health cert + proof of rabies vaccination. We brought ours over from the US without any trouble. Just check with your vet to make certain nothing has changed. Oh, you'll be glad to know, that Boxers are not on any restricted "Dangerous Dogs" lists here in Germany.

I live in the Kaiserslautern area and there are quite a few Boxers that show up in the papers which need rehoming. There's also a Tierheim (Animal shelter) which seems to have the larger breeds. US military Vets also run an animal shelter for pet adoption.

Unfortunately, there does seem to be a general reputation that military here in Germany (regardless of originating country/branch) has a tendency to rehome or abandon pets. :( It's sad, but every PCS season, there are lots of ads running to find homes for pets... usually the larger breeds.
Do you know where you plan to be stationed???? There's a large contingency of Canadian + British Forces here in this area. I know Lahr has closed down -- too bad if you like Europa Park ;)
toodles
