Topic Dog Boards / Health / blown up ear??
- By hebeboots [gb] Date 27.12.06 20:42 UTC
Just got back form a festive run to my mates house, she asked me to take a look at her lovely staff x ear. It look like someone has stuck a bike pump in the ear leather and blown it up  She doesn't seem at all bothered by it and is otherwise healthy, bonkers... but healthy. I advised to get her to the vets tomorrow (which she was going to do anyway) but just wondered if anyone had seen this before and what it could be? It looks like a washing liquid capsule

That's a haematoma. May well need draining and lots of stitches if it's to heal properly. It's a burst blood vessel and the ear flap is filled with blood. Sometimes it goes away on its own, sometimes it needs surgery. One of mine had surgery for it about a year ago.

you can either leave it alone or you can have steiods injected into it as well before a op route.

Thanks for the advice, I'll pass it on.  :)
