Topic Dog Boards / Health / Collecting urine sample from bitch

Hi guys,

I know this has been covered before (done the search) and think possibly the ladel idea might be my best bet BUT open to any other suggestions :)

Anyone also got any tips on stimulating urination - just in case I miss? It's a young bitch who's no fan of interference during her private moments  - so much easier and more opportunities when it's the boys :D

Thanks in advance, Teri

Wait until first thing in the morning put her on a lead and be ready with a sterile container rather than a little sample bottle if possible :D You have to be quick and as soon as you see any signs of her squating get the container under her and hopefully you should get a sample ! If it is a mid cycle sample then just wait for a few seconds :)

Good luck :D

Make her a nice big bowl of warm tea :) She should lap it up without any problems :) Don't forget the choccie biscuits as well ;) :D

A shallow bowl is the easiest thing to use for collection.  A handle makes it even easier and so scrupulously clean omelette pan if you've got one.
Anyone for an omelette tonight?? :D

Success :D :D :D

Bowl of tea had her needing to relieve herself PDQ, a large flan dish collected the necessary which I then syringed into a tiny bottle :D :D :D  I'm well impressed as was my vet  :P

Good news is that sample was normal LOL
West Coat Worry Wort strikes again  :o

 So glad it was a success and more so that she is ok :D

As JG recently said to me better to worry as if you don't it means you stop caring ;)

Good news indeed! :) I've never tried getting a sample from a bitch. Getting one from a dog is bad enough, when he knows what you're trying to do and doesn't want a jar anywhere near his manhood!
