Josie had her pups nearly 10 weeks ago.  She is very fit and healthy, actually like a puppy again!  She has had a very light bloody discharge for the last few weeks, which i wasn't worried about as she had 9 pups and it wasn't foul smelling or anything.  This morning she passed a complete placenta.  She was trying to eat it with her pup as we saw it.  It was intact, with the cord, not decayed or smelly or anything, but just like dark liver colour.  I'm obviously pleased it came out, as I realise it would have caused alot of damage if it stayed in.  Just wondered if anyone else had had anything like this, after such a long time?  And should I be worried there's more left in? Only 3 of the pups came out with placentas, although I did see quite a few passed in the few days after the birth.

Get her vet checked just in case.  I haven't heard of that happening so long after the birth and I would imaging that if it was an intact placenta may be it was from a second mating and the pup was born but to tiny to be noticed in the general birthing process and got gobbled up with the other placentas.  I really don't know just a guess.  Your vet will be able to tell you if her insides have contracted down properly.

Just seen my vet and he was amazed, and had never heard of a placenta been passed so late before.  He had only seen Josie a week ago, and as she is so fit and well is not concerned.  Just one of those things I suppose!

Yep just mark it up to experience I guess!
