Topic Dog Boards / Health / Blood cells not right but vet doesnt have a clue
- By sharonb [gb] Date 07.12.06 14:07 UTC
Hi all Im very confused over the health of Star my female Siberian Husky. We thought she might be having pups and about 2 weeks into her pregnency she lost some blood and seemed in pain and destress. She couldnt walk too well so we took her right away to the vet.
By the time we got her to vets she didnt seem ill at all.
On eximining her the vet said she couldnt find any sign of pregnengy although at 2 weeks was early or any obvious illness.
She took her temp which was low so gave her anti biotics as she had an infection and took a blood test which shown she has too many white blood cells and her new red blood werent being replaced. We took her back a week later although her infection had gone the blood was still the same.
The vet treated her with anti inflamatries and wormed her. Another week goes by and her blood is still the same.
The vet is at a loss and is not sure what to try next. We have been told to put her on a good puppy food iron tabs and multi vitamins.
The vet is going to test her blood again in 2 weeks. Does anyone here have any ideas what to do next. Thanks

I don't have any advice other than to ask your vet to refer her to someone who specialises in cases like this.

Good luck, I'll keep everything crossed for you both!

Has the vet checked for Haemolytic anaemia?

Oh bless Hon, you've had a hectic past 6 months and now with litter number 3!!
Did the vet give anymore info/opinion... Im presuming that as he/she wormed theyve picked up that the white blood cells are Eosinophils or Basophils? (an increase denoting parasitic infection or allergic reaction but thats rare)
Other types would indicate stress or infection etc etc did he/she say at all which types of White blood cells were most prevelant?
To be honest... given signs and symptoms for now I'd wonder about UTI.
try not to scare yourself but of course we can never be blase...
Finger crossed for you and Star, hope you get to the bottom of it soon, how is she now in herself?
