Hi
New to day, though I've been reading the posts on here for some time so I'am hoping I've put this in the right place
I have nearly a year old Dobermann Bitch which I would like to show and have been told that she has real quality and is up to Breed standard which obviously I'am pleased about But.....and there's always one of these
My bitch as Flying Ear's and I've tried every thing to make them drop but so far nothing as worked, so my question is if she was to be shown how would this effect her in the Judge's eye's.I've tried to see if this is classed as a fault and so far I've not seen any thing that say's flying ears are a fault
But would like to know for sure one way or the other

Thank You

The best way to find out is to try! ;) All dogs have faults, even the great Champions - it all depends how seriously they diverge from the 'ideal' which is the standard.

Have you taken her to ringcraft classes to train her (and you!) for the showring? Even if you decide not to have a go, the training is excellent for day-to-day life; keeping still when examined by a vet, walking calmly through strange people and dogs, etc. So go to classes and have a go at a couple of local shows and see how you get on. Good luck! :)

Our toller bitch has started flying her ears, we're hoping it will settle as she gets older but at the breed show last week she was 3rd out of about 8 or 10 and the judge said the only reason she was placed "so low" was because her ears were flying   We're told our bitch is very nice in every other way so to the judge it must have been a minor fault compared to what other faults she could have had.

It all depends on the individual judge though, but i'd definately give it a go.  Try an Open or Limit show and see how you do!  But definately try ringcraft first!!

What are flying ears?

Don't worry to much. My Dobe bitch had terrible flying ears and it looked so weird. She's 18 mnths now and they settled down after her teething finished. Ear infections and even paying attention to you can make them fly too! Some show people use bandages, hairbands and I've even heard of glue to keep them down until the cartilage hardens. I worried about ear infections using these methods so refused to do so and as it happened, her ears dropped anyway. As for your question? Of course it will affect her chances in the ring if she's flying, and the other Dobe has nice little dropped around the face ears. I'm afraid that's just the way it is.

Hi
Thank you for all your replies, sorry I didn't give you more details but she doe's go to ring Craft
But it's what I thought....... it would effect her chance's in the ring, but there's hope that they still might drop
Spirtulist said her Dog was 18 months before they settled so I still have some time to go

Again Thanks

I periodically use tape for 24-48 hours at a time and just tape them down under her chin.  Some people prefer to leave them, but i like them to look perfect and my boys ears are just that :-D  but my bitch is just starting to finish teething (6 months) so hopefully they will get better with time aswell!we have never had any ear infections as I don't tape them hard and I clean the ears everday when they are taped

Speaking of taped ears, someone at ringcraft last night had a Chinese Crested with tape all over its ears, I've not seen her before and don't know how old the dog was, but was that was she was doing? I've never seen any dog taped before, it looked so funny! :-D
