Got someone at the rescue centre to Scan Beano fopr his chip. It says not found.
So went to vet on the way home and they scanned him. with 2 scanners. Nothing.
It was put in when he was castrated 3 years ago in Jan.
She is going to ring the chip company on monday to find out if it will cause problems but,
has anyone else had anything like that????If so what has the outcome been, What have tyou had to do???

It probably isn't missing just moved. I spent 1/2 and hour looking for my vizslas. It is on her right side of her head! under her right ear. Phoned up the microchipping company and they sent a free microchip.

Three instances I have personal knowledge of.  In the first case the chip couldn't e found so dog was x-rayed and chip was in place but not functioning.  The chip company offered to pay for it to be removed and another implanted, but owner opted just to have a second chip and leave it in place.

Second instance was of a chip shattering, probably due to rough play as it had migrated down the shoulder in a short coated dog.

The bitch concerned got an abscess and scar tissue as her body reacted to the contents of the broken chip.  she needed drains and to have the scar tissue cut away.

Third instance the dog was imported to the UK after having been chipped but no chip was found.  Can only assume it was put in to shallowly and worked it's way out.

Recently two of my girls had bloods taken for Optigen tests, vet had to check their chip to confirm they were the dogs I said they were.  My 2 year olds chip was found straight away, but my 8 months old had travelled down the side of her right leg   I hope it doesn't move any more or next time we might be scanning her toes!!

He was scanned all over.
They offered to sedate and Xray to find it but I dont really want to put him through that if it isnt going to cause a problem.

some time they can work themself out of the site where it was injected into the skin.the skin may not heal over.

when you chip  you take the needle out slowly then you put a light pressure on the site to stop it bleed and to heal over quicker,
it could have work it selve out that way,it did happen to my son cat when i did him the next my son found the chip on the floor.it could of work it self out of the site when the cat/dog roll over and rub on the site soon after chipping,
i alway state not to stoke the dog/cat on that sit for 24 hour after chipping.,

My Collie's chip has moved into his chest ..... chips can migrate and then be forced out by the body ...

I saw the vet put my papillon's chip in, in the usual area - but when scanned a few weeks later it showed as being on his right-hand side down by the last rib!  It remained there until he (we) arrived in Spain and our vet here scanned him again to get the chip registered with the Spanish system and it had moved again!  Fortunately being such a small dog the scanner seems to cover a fairly wide area of his tiny body in one go!

A year ago my bitch had a lump in her chest. The chip had moved. The vets took it out and a new one put in. (Paid for by the microchip company :) ) She recently went in for hip x-rays and I got a phone call asking if I had given them the right dog because her chip did not tie in with the number on her registration document  These were the vets that had chipped her both times :) I phone the Kennel Club and they have changed her information, but I haven't got a new document from them. Suppose I would have to pay for that :D Her 2nd chip hasn't moved.

The one thing that nobody seems to have mentioned yet is that CHIPS CAN FALL OUT. On occasion the hole is too big and the chip falls out during the first 24 hours, before the hole has closed up. I have had it happen many a time and therefore always re-scan my kittens and puppies several times. On occasion I have found chips laying on the floor -one kitten took 3 attempts before it stayed in.

If a scan all over the body doesn't find anything then that is the most likely scenario.
