can anyone give any advice re. cut pads, Fagan is always doing it but this time it is a mega hole on his big pad.  he did it a couple of weeks ago, ive kept it covered and bathed in salt water and it is just starting to heal so ive taken the bandage off to let some air get to it but idiot brains keeps licking it !!!  I really dont know what to do for the best.  Any ideas ?

Hi Claire - nice to see you again on Sunday - thanks for coming to say hello!

just been there with Max - seemed to take forever to heal.  I think the best advice I was given was to keep it clean and dry - so I used to put a sandwich bag on then a babies sock all wrapped in place with elastoplast (on a reel).  Despite the initial embarrassment from Max he soon just got on with his walk.

I also put some Aloe Vera gel on it to help with the healing.

In terms of stopping it happening again - this is the first time so hopefully a one off so can't give any advice there.  And the licking?  Max didn't seem to bothered - it is after you have bathed it or just all the time?  Maybe give him a chew to take his mind of it - or is it continous?

Glad its started to heal though.

www.derm-gel.com

i got the spray for area you cannot rub in and the gel for largre areas that you can rub over the cut or wound that cannot be cover,

using at the moment with tangle as the groom snip her ear both side it healing well.got to tell what he done to my baby

how did you get on Sunday Rachel ? we got a 5th in Graduate (out of about 14) and then got thrown out of both stakes classes   I have some aloe vera gel, I will try that on him before I bandage it back up, he seems to be leaving it alone now but I dont trust him when im not home.  Got to miss agility training tonight :(

Hi Claire we did ok - thanks for asking got a 2nd in Junior with Angus my youngster and a nice class of youngsters too :) and Max got 5th in Graduate - didn't expect to do well with max cos she likes a much bigger dog but we didn't get binned and had a great day - first show in ages - and really enjoyed it!

Well done with Alf (nice when you do well in a large class like that)!  Did you hide your mums dog ok! ;)

Poor Fagan missing agility - its amazing how much they limp with a cut pad isn't it - didnt' think I would ever see Max stride out without being lame again!  I did 'try' and reduce his walks but not easy when the others were free running and being a setter - well you know what its like! :)

I left "lurch" in the car, didnt want to risk getting caught bringing her in

It is a pain, last week at agility next week and it doesnt seems like he is going to be any better :(  I wonder if reducing his exercise would help ?

Could try it and when you go out use the plastic bag and sock trick to keep it clean and dry - these things just go on and on sometimes don't they - hope it heals for Fagan very soon.
