How can dogs chew bones for sooooooo long!!!!
I gave each of my dogs a bone 1 1/4 hours ago. Neither have moved from the spot where I gave it to them since and all I can hear from the pair of them is chomp chomp chomp chomp!!!!!

Be careful though, I have only just started feeding bones & I always supervise, as I am still a bit wary. My GSD is loving the chicken wings & the rib bones. I gave him a larger leg bone last week, I too found it kept him quiet, but he was biting off very sharp pieces. He was swallowing a lot of it, but I kept finding sharp bits as he was gnawing the bone. Anyway he was fine, but the next morning he had been sick & all these little bits of sharp bone came back! I will continue with the wings & ribs, but not anything else. I don't think I will try the big marrow bones either, as I hear they give dogs the runs.

Dont worry Beardy. Been giving my dogs bones for years!!!!! the reason Gemma's teeth are still good even tho she is 9 1/2.
Just havnt given them one for a while so this is a novelty for them.
Now Beano has left his bone and Gemma is chomping on it!!!

Do they gnaw at them, or are they eating all of the bones. I suppose it depends what sort of dog it is too? What breed of dogs are they? Zak ate the whole of this leg bone!

Gemma is a Rottie cross and an Am Cocker.

Mine always eat the whole bone, whole leg bones and knuckles. I do find sharp bits on the floor now and again and sometimes one of the boys (borzoi) will do as you describe and bring back up a pile of bone bits! I still give them though, they've had bones all their lives, as have the dogs before them, and I've never had a problem.

I give mine a marrow bone when I can get them.  Mine also chomp at them forever, whatever is left of the bones after day 2 I confiscate and throw away as by this time they look horrible, they also start getting a bit constipated so I give them a rest.
I usually mince up a full chicken, bone and all so they are getting bone it that too.
