Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Dog papers
- By hebeboots [gb] Date 24.11.06 19:03 UTC
Hi all, just wondered what dog paper you get (if any)? I get Dog World, have done for ages but for the last three shows, 1 champ 2 open, that I've been too there have been no critiques, but been informed they have been in the other one.  Does the judge send them to just one paper or is the paper in question not printing them? I know DW only accepts open show critques, up to one month after the show date.  Just wondering whether to change my subscription!  (Although I suspect whichever one I go with the critique will appear in the other :D)
Thanks

Hi, we get both just for this reason :P

I look thru both for this reason (OD is a subscription) but to be honest I've only get one of my present youngster's critiques and out of 13 CH Shows only 4 or 5 critiques appeared for her mum :(  It isn't that they weren't mentioned (CCs, RCCs, first places etc) the critiques for the shows were never published :(  I'm waiting on some at the mo but haven't got much hope :(  only one of her shows has been printed this year so far :( :(

Its so disappointing isn't it? And annoying, frustrating etc etc :D I really look forward to seeing what the judge has to say about my dogs or any that I was handling etc but alas! No show

I get both now as well, even though we're hardly ever in them :D  It's nice to read them when we are, and because a couple of critiques appeared in one and not the other i thought it better to be safe than sorry :-)

I buy Dog World but subscribe to Our Dogs online http://www.ourdogs.co.uk/ - here you have the critiques that have appeared in the paper both for the current year and for past years (as with breed notes and some of the regular columns).  Well worth the money I think.

I do the same as Louise - paper subscription to DW and online to OD.

Critiques often go into OD a few weeks earlier than DW and it's cheaper to subscribe online - plus I'm nosey and don't want to miss anything. Also quite useful to be able to cut and paste stuff from the website, and good for browsing at work during quiet moments.

EDITED TO ADD: Less and less judges seem to think it's part of their remit to submit a critique these days, we're outstanding lots for champ shows this year.

Good idea, think I'll do that online subscription thing.

Must add, I find it really mean of judges, to simply not send them in at all :( - surely they are/were exhibtors once and know how important these critiques are to us mere mortals?

It is part of their judging contract to submit critiques but it doesn't seem to be something that is enforced.

If Andrew Brace, Terry Thorn etc. can get their crits into the dog press a week after the shows they've judged and with the amount of judging they do, there's no excuse for the rest - whether you agree with the critique or not.

Yes, it is sooo disappointing.  My friend got BOB at a show in April - and never a critique :mad:I did hear in one country the judge has to write the critiques in the ring - takes longer but I guess it means they get done.

DW tend to be slower then OD at putting critiques in. Some judges only write for one paper. All judges at Ch shows and club shows are supposed to send in a critique. It is annoying as a judge to send a critique in promptly and it not be printed for weeks on end....

Get both papers and I find that I am still waiting -impatiently - for critiques from an open show last month and our champ show. Though the dogs' critiques were done the week after, in both papers I think, we are still waiting for the girls' critiques
Some shows we did back in february (BOB and group placing) never turned up in either paper :(

I get DW, but this week mine hasn't turned up yet so i shall be on the phone Monday morning.  Thinking about doing the online to OD.

Yes, I'm still waiting for one from 6 weeks ago - a load of others from that show were in last week, along with my girl's photo, but what I'm desperate to know is what he liked about her better than the dog with its stud book number!!

I,m still waiting for critiques from July and August we did five shows and not one of the reports for my breed have appeared yet.
Sooooooooooo  dissapointed as my girl was BOB twice and placed second at two of the others its even more so because its the first time for ages I,ve been able to show her myself instead od needing a handler and its really taken the excitement away .

I know of a few judges who've been taken off breed club judges lists for not submitting a critique when judging a breed club show.  It's deemed as a breach of contract.  Of course this breach of contract applies to general societies too but monitoring the published critiques is so much harder.
