Hello,
As I have recently been on holiday with my dogs, I have realised how hard it is to find a dog freindly self cattering place to stay :-(. I thought it would be good for us to share places that we have stayed at that were good. My main crteria for a good place to stay is: accepts dogs and has an enclosed garden - the larger the better.
The only place that I can recomend is Inchdryne cottage in aviemore scotland. www.inchdryne.com We stayed there a few years ago. It has a large enclosed garden (well about 4 foot high fencing, which is sufficient for my boys as long as I am watching them) and was in the middle of nowhere which was brilliant. We stayed in the cottage as the lodge was not built then.
Can anybody else recommend any other places to visit in Britain??
GG

p.s. I hope that this is not against the TOS

(I have read and don't think it is) but remove if it is???

A large number of campsites all over the country accept dogs, in fact there weren't that many that didn't, and they will accept quite a few. I had 3 when I went but there were people there with 6.
We tried camping with one dog this was just before we got the second dog. That holday was fine I don't know whether I would like to risk it with two.
I thought we would try a cottage last month just for the weekend then OH pulled out and was worried about the dogs messing the cottage up so I don't know what we'll do next time we want to go away.
I would try camping for a short weekend but for a longer holiday I would prefer a cottage of some kind. Also camping does not have an enclosed garden.
In my experience, you should not worry about your dog destroying a cottage. When I go I always take crates so that if should need to leave them then they cant damage anything. Although most places do state dogs must not be left. Most cottages who accept dogs do accept the odd little accident and have cleaning equipment ready for just that. If you are still worried then just don't leave them - take them everywhere that you go and then they won't have the chance ;-).

Pets at home do a book dedicated to hotels, campsites, cottages, etc etc that all accept dogs....
Haven't bought it yet, but it might be worth looking at if you're having trouble?
I do find these book and the websites dedicated to pets OK and I have looked in the past but there is only ever a few listings of places in each area and usually not exactly what you are looking for plus they don't usually state the points that make a place to stay the perfect place - the finer touches such as how nice people are to dogs and if the garden really is secure??
Am I just too picky?? OH says that I set my standards too high!!

:-D

Perhaps your OH is just trying to inflate his ego a bit LOL! "You might have high standards to be be with me" etc etc
I don't think you can ever be too picky when it ocmes to your animals!
LOL :-D :-D :-D
I just always think that if I am going to pay for a holiday then go away to relax then I don't want to be worrying about my dogs escaping etc etc.

too right. Especially when you don't know the area, and neither do they!
I'll be interested to see what comes out of this thread. I'm looking for a holiday destination for next summer!
We have stayed in Cornwall at lots of cottages , with different rental companies & most seem to have quite a lot that accept dogs, although most only accept 1 or 2 pets.
Best just to google Cornwall (or whereever) & holiday cottages.

We have a caravan in west mersea and the site have rental vans, touring caravan pitches and camping facilities and accept dogs. I dont know if I'n allowed to put the site but it has a restaurant, pub, swimming pool, private beach, boating lake, fishing lakes, golf driving range and pitch and putt, and a field just for walking dogs - you can take them all over the site obviously but this field is meant to be just for dogs.

I know a few down here (i clean a few holiday homes) but you'll find the good ones get booked up solid years in advance by regulars.... they are out there its just coming across them which why word of mouth is so much better!
We always use wales-holidays.co.uk and they are brilliant, we have taken Kobi to several cottages and have had no problems, people who allow dogs are very understanding, I've even stayed in cotages that allow dogs but not children!

There is a good place on Anglesey near to Rhosneigr. The bungalow is next to a great beach that is dog friendly. The bungalow sleeps four-although it does have a sofa bed in the lounge so could squeeze in six at a push. Enclosed garden, lots of parking and only a five min walk to a local shop. Rhosneigr is a five min drive away and has a few shops and a pub.
Anyone interested and I will forward the letting company to you.
