Topic Dog Boards / General / General Question about Parvo
- By al8dan [gb] Date 15.11.06 22:15 UTC
We have some dogs at work who have had 1 parvo jab and still contract the virus. We ,last year, had a full jabbed dog who died of the virus. I understand the dog with 1 jab possibly falling ill as it is supposed to take 2 for full immunity.

My question is this;
Does a dog who has recovered from parvo have a higher immunity to the virus than a dog who has not had it (jabbed or not)? Or does having had the virus make the dog weak and therefor possibly prone to catching it again even if it is fully jabbed?

I have a dog who recovered from parvo as a pup and I kind of worry that would predispose him to catching it again even though he is fully vaccinated.

Thanks
Julie

Some dogs unfortunatly, although vaccinated do not take up the vaccine, so unfortunatly it does not cover them.  I believe if your dog catches parvo it will give them some immunity for a while at least, but for how long I don't know.
The only way to tell if your dog is covered is to have a titre test every 1-3 years (depending on how high thier titre levels are)  to check thier immunity levels to these diseases.
