Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / 2 Dogs 1 Crate?
- By Cindyloos Mum [gb] Date 13.11.06 23:51 UTC
I am considering crating my dogs at bedtime as at the moment they sleep in my room but during the night wake my OH by jumping on and off the bed can I Keep the 2 dogs in one crate or does it have to be one crate each?  I think they would settle better if they could sleep together as this is what they are use to.

My Cavalier and Papillon share one and always have done. I've had up to 4 Cavaliers in one -mind you, huge pens!

Hi

My whippet and Jack russel share a crate and before that the jack russel shared with a GSD but they all got on great and I had no worries. Just make sure it is big enough for the two of them.

Kitchen! That's where I'd encourage the little monkeys to sleep!

Sorry roz but I like them in my room but even if I didn't they howl and cry in the kitchen and nextdoors young sons bedroom is right nextdoor to our kitchen and it would be unfair to subject a small boy to our dogs we have been in there house and you can hear are dogs very well

My two Cavies have one big crate (Rottie sized!) for the two of them.  They love it and go up to bed even without me telling them to!  Can't stand to be woken in the night and toilet training caused enough of that! :-).

Personally prefere caging dogs together to on there own.  Never had problems caging two setters together, mind you it's a huge cage! :)

We've caged our two together too but have a really big cage , mind you we have really big dogs too! If they are in the room with you you will soon hear if there is a problem.

My question would be if they were not crated would they choose to share a bed?  Mine share a crate and have travelled on coaches to shows and been crated in a hotel together, but would never chose to share a bed at home, so I wouldn't routinely like to make them sleep together.  Being a thick coated Spitz breed may account for them not being less keen to snuggle together as some breeds.

Don't know if poor Milo has a choice in there bed in the kitchen Cindy tends to lie on under or as close to him as physically possible I think secretly he likes it though they will not sleep in separate rooms they want to be together if one is locked in the kitchen the other will lie next to the baby gate until you open it.
