Topic Dog Boards / General / insurance-anyone used this company?

Has anyone used animal friends? I am looking at possibily insuring my dogs with them and would like to know if anyone has any experiences of them, good or bad? I know they are underwritten by E & L which is not good but they told me on the 'phone this morning that they make all the decisions about claims and E & L are just there to advise. They look a bit pricey but when you see what they are offering for the cost it isn't that bad and with three dogs I would get a 10% discount which would bring it in line with what I am already paying with petplan but with better cover, or rather what I would be paying with petplan if they hadn't completely stuffed up and cancelled my policy and then spent the last four months "investigating" and the last 2 weeks refusing to return my calls asking for an update! If anyone wants the link to the site just PM me and I will give it to you :-)

The information I have is that E&L won't insure against any hereditary conditions.

I have been looking through the wording for the policy, didn't have time earlier. It would seem that hereditary conditions are about the only thing that isn't excluded:eek: I really don't like these bits under "what we won't pay" either:

"Costs not backed up by a receipt/invoice showing full details of the costs incurred."

"Note: There will be a fixed deduction of 10% from any recoverable hospitalisation costs of the policy to account for the
normal cost of pet ownership such as housing, bedding and food."

This one I REALLY didn't like:

"If total vet's fees seem likely to exceed £1000, you must notify us immediately as we may wish to obtain a 2nd opinion from
our veterinary advisor. NB. We can not accept liability for any claim until a fully completed claim form, detailed
veterinary account and full medical history is received."

just think how much a animal could suffer while they are waiting for approval of the treatment :-(

Don't think I would touch them with a barge pole

yep, to me too so I think that unfortunately I will have to keep looking :-( I have been told by someone that used to work for them that they do in fact pay out quickly and that E & L don't have any say on the claims but looking at how much they are excluding I would rather not risk it! Never thought I would have to start doing this again, bloody petplan!!!

DO NOT use any company connected with E & L. They are a dreadful company & should be reported IMO.

I think the owner of this company was on Radio2 recently - isn't the company supposed to be non-profit making, donating all profits to animal charities?
