Topic Dog Boards / Health / CUSHINGS DISEASE- ANYADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED

I was wondering if I could possibly get some advice.

My dog has had a number of problems with her bladder (mainly struvite stones), this has now been resolved however I have recently noticed she is drinking more, has quite a bit appetite (although her food is limited and she has no treats at all).

The vet has tested her urine and said that it isn't concentrating enough and is now sending it away for further analysis as it looks as though the kidneys aren't working as they should do.  She has had a full blood check the other week and they all came back fine.

When I spoke to the vet he mentioned cushings disease which caused me to panic slightly, however he is not sure what we are dealing with at the moment.

Cleo is a 10 year old collie cross bitch and all other signs are fine she is still quite lively and in all other respects seems very well in herself.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I am quite worried about all this.

Thanks

I posted a very similar request a couple of weeks ago, and no one offered any help at all.  So I went looking elsewhere, and found this.

Good luck.  I know what you are going through

Your Dog July 2006 had a question about Cushings and mentioned a Homeopathic vet calledMark Elliot who has written a paper about homeopathic treatment of Cushings in dogs and horses . This link should get you to the website then there is a link on the site to resources where you can read  the paper. http://www.homeopathicvet.co.uk/
Don't know if it is any good as I have no experience of Cushings but it might be worth a read

Thanks for all your replies.  It looks like Cleo does have cushings, we had the test results of the urine and the good news is her Kidneys are fine but did show higher levels of cortisone (may be mispelt).  She had the ACTH blood test this morning so I just have to wait for the results which is a bit of an anxious wait to say the least.

Sorry for a stupid question, but I would be very interested in contacting your friend, Lucy but not sure how to leave a link?

Finally had the results today and the ACTH test for cushings has come back negative, so have to take this as good news, but leaves me still with not knowing what is wrong with Cleo.  The vet has said that in her last urine sample showed fungal in it and she has been on and off antibiotics for the last year.  He said it is very rare but could be fungal cystitis, so we have to do another urine test on Monday to see if this still shows that it isn't concentrating, her last sample also showed increased levels of cortisone.

Cleo in herself is really well actually and very playful as I have a 1 year old border collie that keeps her sprightly, so fingers crossed it is nothing too serious.

Thanks for everyones info, hope to have some definitive news is all I can say
