Topic Dog Boards / General / Dog Coats - Weatherbeeta
- By Boxacrazy [gb] Date 26.10.06 11:28 UTC
Just a question really has anyone any experience of Weatherbeeta dog coats?
I.e. what the quality is like, are they hard wearing etc.
I know they also make horse rugs etc but just interested to know what
thier dog coats are like and if they are warm etc for dogs.
Looking at the waterproof Orican I think it's called.
Is it just velcro straps that keep the coat on?

Thanks in advance for anyone's experiences with these coats.

Never heard of them, Kirstine, but I'm nosey so had to Google. :D Look nice and seem ridiculously cheap for a slightly different model here:

Apologies if this is no use for some reason.

If they are anything like thier horse rugs they will be fantastic.

This sounds promising :)

I have had one for about a year it 's tough & warm the velcro still sticks, not sure what design it is though.

I bought coats for two of mine a couple of years ago. I looked at so many different ones mostly with the single surcingle strap but as they are a bit mad I wasn't sure if they would stay put! I finally settled on these from Robinsons, they are waterproof, warm and because of the cross straps they stay put! They are also nicely priced too which helps.;-) I generally only use them when it is wet, on deef for my convenience and on Kel to stop him getting wet and subsequently cold:-)

looking at the orican it seems that it is just the velcro straps that keep the coat on. Mine charge about and crash through undergrowth chasing each other and their coats stay on and so far no damage. I remember when I was looking that I wasn't convinced that the single strap type would stay in place and I did wonder if the velcro would be strong enough. I also worried about it lifting up over their bottom and not having the desired effect or keeping them covered and dry!

Thanks Boxers are pretty mad too...
I primarily want a warm & waterproof coat to double as a warm benching coat when we
are at cold winter Ch shows we've got one at 3 co's showground in Dec and if weather
is cold the humans shiver let alone the poor dogs on the benches..
Also when the weather is really wet/cold for when we are walking in the horrid winter months.
Two of mine really feel the cold so it's hard trying to convince them that they will really like the walk
when outside is freezing and wet LOL.

I notice they say washable - a handy thing to have - But I'm guessing after washing that I'd need to re-proof the outer
part of the coat to keep it waterproof?

i got a weatherbeeta for my poodles last year, yes they are lovely warm coats but i would advise you to measure the depth of your dog as mine were to long in the front for my girls so i had to take the front up.  and when you start messing with them [unless you are good at sowing] they look abit messy!!!.

Thanks for the tip.
Boxers tend to be quite deep chested so depth will probably be ok.
Although I'm not the accomplished seamstress so it will look a mess
if alterations are needed :D

Weatherbeeeta coats are very good, just like there horse ones, they willl last you for yrs, if you go to a saddlery  you can get some waterproofing spray to coat them with after washing.

the only thing i dont like about the weatherbeeta is they are quiet stiff, and if you plan to leave them on while they are running off lead, they may move around.

I have bought my 2 (boxers)  euquafleece   coats,  they are fab, they are made out of polartec fleece  so are extremely warm  and mine have worn theirs in the heavyest of rain and they stay waterfroof.    they will not move either if the dogs are off lead.

Also very warn for benching   keep them nice and snug.  and they do fit Boxers very well

I have done a search of my original posts on here and it was only August last year I bought them! Just seems like 2 years ago LOL However, I have washed them several times and have not yet had to reproof either of them. I e-mailed robinsons before I bought them and was told that they were waterproof but the one with the extra neck piece would need re-proofing after washing. I am going to buy Sol one too in the very near future, again more for my convenience than him needing one! There is another type of coat that I found which would probably be perfect for your needs but it is quite expensive. I can't find the website for it but it is a fleece type coat that is also waterproof. I think it fastens around the legs so wouldn't slip but it is some special sort of material, I can't even remember the name, sorry! I am sure someone on here told me about it so perhaps they will be along to tell you what it is? :-)

Havent used those but did just order a requisite dog coat because it had cross surgicles (spelling)  like the horse coats so it doesn't slip like so many do, and was so impressed when it arrived it was thick and warm, waterproof and well made, sadly had to return it because it was slightly too long in the front for my dog to handle, thats mainly because she has three legs and is 14 though for a normal dog it would be fine, the coat itself was fantastic and only £15. Got it from the horse catalogue robinsons uk.
