I have had quite a few problems with my dobermann, I won't go into detail but anyway I only let him off lead when no one is around, then we play ball etc.  I don't trust him around other dogs and also people, so it is always better to keep him with me.  Anyway he was off lead, we were in the woods, he started barking and running around this thing that looked like some rags on the floor, it actually was a man curled up asleep on the floor, it was pouring with rain.  I called him he came to me, I put him on lead and we walked back over, the man sort of come around (he was obviously drunk), I asked if he was okay and he said he was.  It's not the sort of thing that you would normally encounter, and although my dog barked at him he came straight to me when I called.  For me it was your worst nightmare, but I am sure most dogs would have reacted exactly the same.

im sure most dogs would have investigated the strange smelling warm lump on the floor and been a bit surprised when it moved, so nothing odd there i dont think. and you obvioulsly have a great recall so thats something to be proud of:cool:(i know how much work that takes as mine started out with zero and is now fantastic).

Nips would most likely have gone over to the sleeping bundle, sniffed it and then neatly cocked his leg on it.

I am glad he was good, and probably because the guy was drunk he didnt react to the dog. A word of caution though....If your dog does have these tendencies, there is still a chance of disaster. A field or park when you enter it may well be empty, but a dog child or adult can appear at any time. Allowing him off lead is still a bit of a risk.
