Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / moved house- wont wee!
- By chrisjack Date 17.10.06 16:47 UTC
hey everyone- we moved house at weekend and now have a much smaller yard type garden, our dog is refusing to wee in it, she will just stand and look at the other houses. then we take her for a walk and will do both, so she is only relieving herself twice a day.

i know that its all new to her and scary- but what should i do?

i think the plan is to just wait till she's setlled in and then reward when she wee's...

is this normal behaviour?

thanksx

ps- the cat wee'd, poo'd and sicked all on one day, all on the sofa or futon, now they are covered in big bags! joy...

Have you got grass in your yard ?? My bitch hates weeing on anything other than grass :)

she is probably taking time to settle. when i moved my bitch was so interested in what was going on around her outside that she completly forgot about and then decided that weeing inside would be fun for a few days. soon got bac into her old routine though.

That was my thought Daisy, mine won't wee on anything that's not porous and prefers grass. I suppose he would eventually but he'd look like a zeppelin first.

Could you collect some wee on her walk.  Then put it down in the yard later in the day when you want her to go.  The familar smell might just help.

Our Bramble does this everytime we go on holiday. She will wee and poo in our garden but she holds on until desperate if we are anywhere else even when Treacle is weeing and pooing quite happily. Its quite funny because she will actually go and do both in water so we spend our first day on holiday looking for a river, loch or pond, the sea, big puddle whatever to make her go! On our holiday in August she held on for over 24 hours until we visited the beach despite us walking her for hours round the place we were visiting, calling encouragement - glad it was dark ;-) (no rivers handy). she must have a huge bladder :-), but once she has gone once she is fine, its almost like she is just too polite (embarrassed) to pee in a strange place  . I would let her settle and she will probably be fine.
