Okay, here's how it goes.

There is a neighbour who works in an old people's home, and at the end of the night, any (good) food that is not eaten, is meant to be thrown away.

Kindly, he has sometimes kept is aside for Spuddy.

The other week he included a large lamb bone, and I specifically asked my girfriend not to give him it, as I had heard stories of dogs and bones, and the chances of them choking on a piece.

To my annoyance, she gave it to him anyway, which I think is unfair, when I had POLITELY asked her not to.

Anyway, the upshot is that yesterday he managed to chew off a piece that was about the size of a large toy 'marble'.

He did not choke on it, but he has not passed it out yet, and I have to wonder if being unable to pass it out is likely to cause him any harm?

Please advise...

Um, could you not remove the bone from him after she gave it him - or am I misunderstanding it? I'd keep a close eye on him for a while...

Stomach acid can dissolve bone, and plenty dogs get fed bone in their diet without any problem, so hopefully you've nothing to worry about. :) The main worry I think is that cooked bones are more likely to splinter which is why feeding raw is better.

If you're lucky he should digest it and pass it with no problems,if it's as you say only the size of a marble.Cooked bones are an absolute a no no for dogs, they have real problems digesting them,as cooking changes the whole molecular structure of them making them much more brittle and prone to splintering. On the other hand raw bones are an excellent addition to any dogs diet, and a natural part of it,their whole make up is designed for ripping raw meat off the bone and then crunch up the bone.Raw meaty bones are an indespensable part of my feeding program, and i really believe all dogs should get the pleasure of regular rmb's.
Avoid pet shop bones and any bones that have been heat treated.Raw chicken wings are the most popular rmb.

Bones rarely come out the way they went in (if it was raw)...........

Not clear from your post if it was raw or cooked, if the former, plenty of dogs like mine regularly consume raw bones with no problems that is their diet.  If cooked, if it has not caused aproblem by now the chances are it won't.
