I've had two bad days here. Yesterday, Thursday, in the evening Simba the Golden collapsed. Cutting a long story short, it was like a seizure but he was fully aware and conscious. He couldn't walk. We've been to the vets, blood has been sent off, lots of different scenarios possible, but what seems most likely at the moment is a liver shunt, despite Simba being 3.

24 hrs later and we had ANOTHER dog collapse. I couldn't believe it. But this time we knew what it was. Rufus the Cavalier who according to the vet "should" have died in 2002 (MVD of course as he is a Cavalier....he is 11 yrs 8 mths old), he had a really bad episode. Normally he has mini seizures when the heart isn't working well enough to get enough oxygen pumped to the brain, and these only last a few seconds. This evening it lasted half an hour and it really, really looked like his time had come. We all sat here (children as well) trying to keep him calm and quiet and just waited for him to die. It was AWFUL. Then all of a sudden he started to get a bit brighter again, and now he is 100 % back to normal again. But my guess is this may well be the beginning of the end.

I hope tomorrow will be normal. Guess I jinxed myself the other day when I said about how my dogs never see the vet! :(

Sorry to hear about your dogs. It always seems to happen this way, one minute everything is ticking along lovely. The next your house seems like a vets clinic. Your stress levels are probably quite high at the moment with all the worry.Heres hoping all turns out well for you.

I'm sorry, you do seem to be having a rough time at the moment with your animals :( Fingers crossed for both your boys.

Both are fine today -Simba a bit quiet, Rufus having his usual mini fits, but compared to Thursday and today they are perfect. Fingers crossed...... Will find out more about Simba on Monday, and maybe Rufus is the DOG with 9 lives.

Sorry you've had such an awful time with your dogs, but I'm pleased to hear they are feeling better now.

You must be really concerned about both, but especially concerned about Simba your Golden as he is so young.
I wondered if you and your vet have considered the possibility of vaccines/boosters causing the problem?

Whatever it is, I hope you find out soon and hope they both recover quickly - please let us know how they get on!

Glad Rufus is still with you. My sister had a Dane X that lived until he was 14. She used to cheer every morning that Roy woke up and they'd sing a little celebration song for him.

I hope you get good news on Monday. Lots of crossed fingers here.

Will be keeping fingers crossed for both Simba and Rufus.  Keep us informed.

Well no news really so far. The blood tests were all normal. The dog on the other hand is NOT. Simba hasn't had any other episodes since Thursday but he is defintely deprssed and not his usual self.

Next thing is a urine sample (have to try to get one in the morning) then other tests including for Cushing's (mainly to rule it OUT the vet said) then x-rays etc. So far it's a mystery.......
