My cd drive on my laptop is not opening and is not being recognised by the laptop. there is a cd in there from the other day and it is not reading it. Any suggestions? or do I need to get profressionals to look at it

Try going to your start menu, left clicking on my computer, then right click on devices with removable storage which should bring up a drop down menu with an eject option which if left clicked on should open the CD drawer
there isnt an icon for devices with removable storage, just the hard drive which, when i clicked open it said I was not allowed to do that

I am not sure about getting it working but to get the disk out there should be a small hole (like a reset hole) very near to the disk holder. Push a paper clip in here and it will open the disk drive
there is one on the actual drive next to the button that you would press to open it, is that one you mean?

I think so.
Can I take it that you have rebooted it?
If so then there is usually a tiny hole next to the eject button - push a paper clip into the hole and you should be able to open the drive and get the CD out and try it again
rebooted it a number of times
put a paper clip in it and it didnt do anything.
did you apply pressure when putting paper clip in as this is often a manual eject button and is not spring loaded and all the paperclip does is unlatch it so that you can manually open the drive

You might just have a loose cable, so taking it to the shop is a good idea if you're not the type to go messing around on the inside.
knowing me I will break it if I do any attempt at fixing it myself!! I will take it to the shop
