Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Bitch in season, Dog not eating

Hi

Freya is just coming to the end of her season and is currently kept in a seperate kennel in a different area of the garden.  Casper is however off his food, which I know is pretty normal for a dog with a bitch in season in close proximity, but how do I a) get him to eat, b) get the weight back on him.  Casper has always been very lean, almost skinny, but now even his hip bones are visable and he looks in a shocking state.  He still has as much energy as before, and his behaviour hasn't markedly changed, but i must confess we are now getting worried him.  He is currently on Supadog Sensitive as anything else gives him the runs and he is usually fine on this.  I have raw fed him in the past too, which he was ok on.  Should I go back to raw feeding with him, or will he gradually start to eat and put weight back on?

I worry about our boy as this will be the same issue once our girl gets older.  He is very lean and i have a job getting weight on him at the best of times.  We did consider putting him into local kennels if this happens. Look up the recipe for satin balls on the site, i have heard this puts weight on.  Hope this helps i lookforward to some other suggestions on this.

If he has been fed raw in the past you could try some tripe as it is good for putting on weight.
