You know the Kennel Club has got a new website. Well I've tried to register for one of their online accounts, I don't really need one, but I just thought I'd do it anyway. Well they've sent me an e-mail to say they are restricting the accounts to Kennel Name holders to begin with, and according to their records I don't have a Kennel Name.

Well I thought I did have a Kennel Name, I registered it in July 2003 and signed a direct debit mandate. So I've checked back and the KC have never activated the Direct Debit, I mean they've never had the mainainance fee for 2004, 2005 or yet for 2006.

So what do you think, do you think they'll expect me to pay the £70 again, I'm happy to pay the arrears, but aside from not noticing the maintainance fee hadn't been collected by Direct Debit, it hasn't been my fault.

Knowing the KC they'll want the £70 even if it is their fault :rolleyes:  Though in all honesty you should also have noticed as to whether they took out monies each year,

Hope you get it sorted and that you don't have to pay that much.

Well Dawn , this is very interesting as I had the same very trouble this week.  LUCKILY mine had only lapsed by 6 weeks so they quickly reinstated it. I was really angry. I registered a litter of puppies and it wasn't picked up.

Word of warning to to others.  I have paid mine by Direct Debit since 2001 , they said the DD had been cancelled but I know it never has or had been.

They did sort it for me though. You might be in a bit tougher situation with the time lapse.

I'm going through this problem just now. The KC sent me a letter stating that they would be taking out the money on 30th August. They didn't. I checked with my bank and they, too, said that the DD had been cancelled. :( No it hadn't I e-mailed the KC to tell them I wanted to pay by a different method only for them to e-mail back stating the money wasn't due until the 30 September Why was the letter sent then?

Why don't you e-mail the KC and see what they say? You should get an e-mail back quickly. Much quicker than by post ;)

Had the same here with my D.D. rang them and asked them to sort it while I waited on the phone. hope they have sorted it

Gosh, this doesn't appear to be a one off does it? 

There appears to be a huge problem with their direct debit system.  After such a long lapse it is not only the worry of repaying the £70,(which I'm pretty sure they will make you do) but your Kennel name may well no longer even be available, even if no-one else has taken it, there may be other names so similar that it is not allowed to be used now. :-(

Of course they will say that you should have checked, but to be honest not many of us do, we just take things for granted, and of course once a DD is signed we don't think of it again.  I shall be double checking now, as it is obviously a problem.

I hope that you can still get your original choice back. *fingers crossed*

I pay mine on line when it is due, never trusted DD's, and got an instant acknowledgement.

I'm glad I read this thread. I am just about to renew mine and hubby said let's set up the DD for next year! Think we'll leave it now!!

Just checked, mine's going ok - phew!

Well now, just to update. I've spoken to Anna at the Kennel Club and she has checked the records, my affix hasn't been registered to anyone else in the past 2 years, so they are happy to reinstate it in my name, on payment of the arrears from May 2004 to now.

I'm a happy bunny, isn't the Kennel Club wonderful :D.

Actually, now that I have thought about it, when I asked my ex if I could get the affix we used to have in joint names I found out that he hadn't paid it for 2 years and 10 months (I think!) and by the time I got round to asking the KC I was told that it had lapsed. If it hasn't been paid for up to 3 years you can usually reinstate it. If it has lapsed for over 3 years you have to reapply for it, which is what I had to do :( Mind you, I was allowed it :)
