Hi,
Eastender's baby have brought a lot back in to my thoughts. one of my daughters is brain damaged.
I would like to share this with you:cool:

HEAVEN'S VERY SPECIAL CHILD

A Meeting was held quite far from earth
"It's time again for another birth"
Said the Angels to the Lord above
This special child will need much Love.

His Progress maybe very slow
Accomplishment he may not show
And he'll require extra care
From the folks he meets down there.

He may not run, or Laugh or play,
His thoughts may seem quite far away,
In many ways he will adapt
And he'll be known as hanicapped.

So let's be careful where he's sent,
We want his life to be content.
Please Lord find this person who
Will do this special job for you.

They may not realise straight away
The learning role they're asked to play,
But with this child sent from above
Comes stronger faith and richer Love.

And soon they'll know the priviledge given
Their precious child so meek and mild
        Is heaven's very
          Special Child.

That is beautifully put, so many of us dont really know what to do or say and probably end up either turning away because of it or the fear of saying something stupid and inappropiate.
I have a friend with a downs child and when I heard the new baby was downs, I remember thinking something along the lines of those words, it wasn't any thing like sympathy for the parents but more that lucky child has been born to a family that will know how to love her.
It wasn't til a bit later with the influence of other friends that I realised that they had a child with a handicap that could cause them problems...
So I think 'special' is so appropriate! :-)

Ahh that's lovely.

If it wasn't for the strength of my parents and their persistence I could of easily been in a home now and not able to walk.  My parents were told that I was brain damaged and would never walk.  Even on the day that I began to walk at the age of 3 the medical profession told my mother that what she thought was movement couldn't be, I got up and walked across the room the same night and haven't looked back!!

Love conquers most things, also a little understanding from others. I had my girl from a little baby, that had been abused and no-body wanted. I love her so much and children that are special give so much love back.
