Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Which hearts are best?
- By StaffieSirius [in] Date 16.09.06 16:43 UTC
Got some lambs hearts from the butcher today (that was all he had) for my 8month old SBT...  Is there any hearts which are better than others eg. lambs, ox etc...

I always use lambs heart for the dogs! not sure what others use

Thanks Emz77 do you feed them raw or cooked?  The butcher told me to try him with them raw first and if he didn't like them to boil them for 30mins...

I always feed raw and they don't touch the sides, but then there aren't many foods that will in our house ;-)

I buy lambs hearts as I can get them from Tescos when I do my weekly shop and they are relatively cheap there too.

Beef hearts have the most nutrients,i think, and have more taurine than any of the others.

This site gives you the GA of just about every food imaginable, including raw/cooked hearts. You can look up what you're having for lunch and dinner and know exactly what nutrients you are having.

I buy ox hearts from Morrisons as they are already cut up.  My husband was nearly sick when I bought whole hearts and asked him to cut them up!!!!  I do just par boil and the liquid goes on the dogs dry food.

I feed whatever I can find, variety is the spice of life ;)  Always raw and I never bother cutting them up as they are a bit rubbery! :D
