My Cindy unlike me needs to put on wieght any idea what i should feed her at the moment she is free fed James welbeloved which she normally eats when I start cooking in the kitchen.

;) Cindyloos Mum I know the feeling, I need to lose weight and my rescue Pom needs to pile it on!
- By Cindyloos Mum [gb] Date 12.09.06 21:45 UTC
I would happily be a donnor but I think i would need a hell of a lot more skinny cavs

:D LOL LOL LOL

I'd need about a dozen underweight Poms!

I think free feeding might just be your problem. She knows there is always food available. :) She'll be more likely to finish her food if it vanishes within 10 minutes each time.

When I needed to put weight on a dog of mine I simply added a third meal for a few weeks and it did the trick.

We added a small breakfast for a few weeks which seemed to help. There's a recipe on here for something called satin balls, if you do a search, if she's really in need of weight gain. :-)

I use green tripe for mine if they need to gain some weight

breast of lamb is excellent for putting weight on :)
- By Cindyloos Mum [gb] Date 13.09.06 21:31 UTC
Hmm cooking lamb not sure if my dog would get it maybe a mouthfull but would have to wrestle it out of oh mouth
- By Dill [gb] Date 14.09.06 10:48 UTC
LOL

You could give it RAW :D - may stop OH stealing it :D :D :D
- By ClaireyS Date 14.09.06 15:53 UTC
I cook it for one of mine and give raw to the other.  I cant stand the smell though :(

I also find buying dog grade stuff puts the OH off, he always double checks what im getting out of the freezer

If I need to put any weight on any of my dogs, I give them a lunchtime feed of scrambled egg and toast spread with olive oil spread and pate.

After one of my dogs was seriously ill, he lost alot of weight. Someone suggested to me to use 'weight gain' powder that you can buy in BOOTS. You just mix it with milk. I looked at it, but couldn't see it would benifit. It's for humans after all!! Not dogs!! I found switching to a more natural diet, i.e including raw foods helped loads!!

I would use a mixture of chicken wings, tripe (but mind the smell ) and breast of lamb. My boy lost nearly 10 kilos in a month when he was very ill and to look at him now you would  never know, this has certainly done the trick in our house hold.... oh and the lamb is pretty tasty too ;-)

When we took on our rescue rottie she was 10kg underweight! We tried Burns and Naturediet but she didnt gain that much weight and it cost us a fortune. I then read up on BARF and switched her on to that. The results were amazing and I couldnt recommend it more. Shes soo much better!

I'm not saying it will work for everyone but it certainly worked for us!

when kia lost alot of weight when she was ill i feed her the same food she was on but added a little tripe with it soon enough she put all the weight back on.i still keep her on the same food now but i have reduced the amount of tripe.
