I have a 16 month old westie and in August he developed an ear infection in his right ear. It was a hassle to get ear drops in - it took 3 to hold him still, so the vet swopped to antibiotic tablets. The infection cleared up. But now has developed in his left ear. The vet has given some antibiotic tabs again but says that drops would probably be best because he thinks it might be fungus infection which westies are prone too. If it reoccurs he will have to sedate him and put a probe down his ears but the outcome might still be drops which are impossible to administer. I have not had any health problems with him so far, his skin is fine and he is robust and healthy so am a bit upset that he might be developing recurrent ear infections. I wonder if anyone else has encountered this and whether there might be alternative treatments which have worked?

one of mine had recurring ear problems as a youngster and it turned out to be diet related :(  I know you've been there, done that and got the T-shirt but you may have to look into the ingredients your youngster is on.

We had numerous drops and ABs over a lengthy period before it was finally determined that it was allergy related.

Not much specific help as it could be almost anything but perhaps worth looking in to.

Thanks Teri, and of course Westies are prone to allergies are'nt they:rolleyes: I feed him on nature diet which seems to have suited him so far but it does have some rice in it although mostly meat. I will see how things go, I have become very creative at sneaking in the ear drops, but the plan never works twice! Perhaps I'll get around to trying the BARF diet.
