As any of you that have read my previous posts will know I am just starting out on the raw feeding method.

Do any of you that have been doing it for a while fast your dogs and if so how often?

I don't fast my dogs - I just give them the quantity that they need, but no more :)

I don't fast my dogs - they would go crazy and just whine the whole time. I think it depends on your dogs - some will naturally fast for a day. Mine certainly don't :D

I don't fast mine but two seem to fast themselves - just a day and sometimes one meal a day.  The other 3 don't fast at all - greedy piglets! (should that read doglets!)

I don't fast our dog either but like rachelsetters he will sometimes choose not to eat for a day and then be back to his normal routine the next day.

I would hate to think what my 2 would do if i decided to fast them, they would not be happy :-(  they would probably try to make a catch for themselves out of the little dog that lives next door

Shay finds it hard enough to manage the times between meals as it is...if I tried to fast him, he'd probably hand himself over to the nearest rehoming centre  :D

I personally do not agree with regular fasting, I do not see any benefit for the dog.  My dogs get fed every day, but rarely at the same time or place and quite often when they are being trained.

For some dogs fasting could be somewhat less than beneficial leading to a drop in blood sugar levels which could be dangerous in some environmental conditions.

Thanks for all the replies. I only ask because nearly all the books I have been reading recommend fasting. It is good to hear from people that have been feeding this way for a while, any info. is always welcome to us newcomers to the system!

My dog regulates his food himself,I dont fast him at all but he may have a day when he does not eat as much as normal, then the following day he is back to normal,my younger puppy on the other hand will never leave a thing and is always looking for more.forgot to say the older puppy ,the day he does not eat all of his food,I know the morning after he would of been sick through the night a yellow bile as he is hungry, and he eats his breckie as if it is his last meal

My oldest one will pick at a meal sometimes but you could leave food down all day and she would only eat what she wants. The middle one would eat for England and never ever refuses food (if she did I would know she was definately ill) The youngest one, however, very often decides she doesn't want breakfast and will only eat half her tea but she's back to full meals the next day :) So, no I would never fast any dog of mine, if the youngest and eldest fast themselves thats up to them :)

No fasting in this house either don't agree with it.
If the dog decides no, don't want it fine ! but hes always fed same time every day.
