Topic Dog Boards / Showing / A Totally Underwhelming Show debut!

Nips has thoroughly enjoyed making an eejit out of me this afternoon at the village fete. We always have an extremely informal Dog Show and I was tempted away from manning the bric a brac stand to enter the lad in three classes and make his debut in the ring.

Of waggiest tail he didn't have it but did try to take a dump halfway through the action. Of being the dog the judge most wanted to take home he clearly wasn't and I suspect this may have something to do with him treating her to his "goes right through yer head" yap which set all the other dogs off.

He saved his most underwhelming performance for the agility class though. Where, having weaved rather nicely, he took one look at the first jump and promptly sat down with the sort of firm finality that suggested I'd previously coated his bottom with concrete. The second jump was simply given a baleful look as he hared around, rather than over it. On encountering the tunnel he looked at me as if I'd taken leave of my senses and quite reasonably refused to believe there were rabbits down there. When we came to the sit/stay he was so thrilled by the audience reaction - most of them seemed to need a change of underwear - that he played to them wholeheartedly and acted as if I'd given him these simple commands in a foreign and long extinct language.

As it happens his father (Socks) turned in a similar performance so I was able to put it all down to genetics. ;)

GREAT!!!  we entered Jasper into the 0 - 12 month puppy stakes at our local charity show, and Jasper being himself, licked the judges face (on both sides) and then rolled over onto his back (tickle meeeee!)!!

We thought we would enter Coco at our local show yesterday & when he came to stand on the table, he just licked her all over & put both paws up on her! Then i wondered why our adorable TT didn't even get a rosette! He was the youngest in the 0 - 12 mths, at only 5 months!

They're great at embarrassing you aren't they! I was trying to do offlead heelwork with mine on Sunday, looked round and she's 10 feet away sniffing at something!! :-D

Don't dogs make you look like liars........I was only telling my friend (who's dogs have fabulous recall) last week that Roxy's recall was getting better and better and better. As the words were coming out my mouth we watched Roxy become an increasingly smaller and smaller bouncy hooligan with not so much as a backward glance at the cheese cube and excited 'Roxy- COME' as she went to introduce herself to everyone in the surrounding area! :rolleyes::rolleyes: Little s*d!

Good one Nip :D :D  there should have been a class for most entertaining dog - he'd have won that!! :D :D :D

I took my dog to an open show where a friend was judging the breed (mainly to support as it was the first judging appointment ;) ) and we intended to be very proper and not make it too obvious we knew the judge, that was until I got dog on table where she instantly jumped in his arms and proceeded to madly lick his ears, neck + head with her paws around his neck, with her tail wiggling madly :D :D  Little horror !

I once took hudson in the 'Best Movement' class at a companion show. We stuck out like a sore thumb as he was the only lab amongst all the greyhounds and lurchers!!! But unfortunally Hudson had a different idea on what 'best movement' meant. We were all running around the ring together when he stopped dead and did the biggest (and slightly sloppy) poo I had ever seen :eek::eek::eek: I did not no where to put my face I just turned to the judge and said "well it is best movement" Luckily everyone saw the funny side and we even got second place!!!!

Dill - at least he did know the judge - my girl has a habit of trying to kiss total stranger judges while they are trying to go over her! :-D

Labs - :eek::eek::eek:

Labs, I sympathise:cool: My shepherd boy was in best movement, and we were belting around at quite a pace. Trouble was, he could see our other dog and partner and just headed in that direction. I couldn't stop him, so was either going to crash the ropes or duck under at pace. Couldn't do the last one, not flexible enough :mad: so had to let him go :eek:

I was so embarrassed as I hauled him back in the ring, but apparently he looked so good on his way out of the ring he got a 4th ! Don't you just love 'em :rolleyes:
