I would be interested to know what other CD'ers think of this food?

Our breeder was feeding Roscoe Purina Beta, he seemed fine on this although his poos seemed a bit runny to me (sorry to be graphic soft toothpaste like).  Anyway, I continued to feed Beta. Then I had trouble getting hold of it so after writing to Purina about their different foods I gradually changed him over to the Purina One. This went well and his poos are slightly firmer and he does less in a day.  I think his coat looks shinier to me.

After reading lots of post on CD about different foods, puppies growing too fast, high protein, raw etc I wondered what other people think of Purina One.  The pet shop owner recommended Purina Pro plan and said she had changed all her dogs on to it and had seen a difference in their coats. Purina One only comes in small bags from the supermarket whereas Pro plan can be bought in larger bags at the pet shop.

I would be grateful of everyones opinions.

Many thanks

Clare

when feeding dry i used pro-plan, it was a fantastic food for my boy...  but now having more than 1 dog was looking for a cheaper option and have settled on using Landywoods mince with laughing dog terrier meal, with ocassional extras added to the diet such as lamb breasts, chicken wings, fruit, veg etc they have done well on both of these foods. I haven't tried purina one but i can definately recommend pro-plan.  But then not all foods will suit all dogs, so if you are happy with how your dog is progressing on his current brand why change it?

I use pro plan on our large breed puppy, (the adult) she hasnt grown too fast/too tall/too soon she looks absolutely stunning and her show wins reflect this, so much so i changed our middle dog who had trouble keeping weight on and his coat was pretty lacklustre at times and hes never looked better has a nice even coverage now, glossy coat.
Little and less poos too which always a bonus when you're out there in driving rain on poop duty :D

But like the others say what suits some doesnt suit all.

Hi Clare,

I used Pro Plan for years, it was the only dry food that worked for a GSD I owned that had a dodgy digestion.

With regard to coat condition - unless there's some underlying health problem, any food that is higher in fat (like ProPlan) will improve coat condition.  Purina One is also relatively high in fat, so I doubt you would notice the difference between the two foods.

If the problem is the size of the bag then by all means, switch.  They look like very similar foods anyway, so if you dog has done well on Purina One he should do just as well on Pro Plan.   You could also see if you can buy larger sized bags of Purina One from one of the online pet suppliers.

Clare,

I live in the states and have used both Purina One and Pro Plan...switching back and forth with no ill health in the dogs.  The foods are extremely similar and I'd happily stick with either.

Thank you all for your posts.

I feel re-assured now that both foods are good and will continue to feed them to Roscoe

Thank you

Clare
